I brought Halmet to work with me yesterday, to get his beak trimmed. This is the first time he's had it done while living with me, I'm not sure if his past owners have ever had his beak worked on. (He's 12, I've had him for a couple of months)
My Vet/boss insisted I wasn't the one holding him while they dremeled, so I made myself scarce, and went about work in the other room with a D: face while I heard him complain. My poor boy.
The entire afternoon and evening yesterday and then this morning, he has been very subdued. Extra cuddly, extra needy, and very very quiet. No playing, and more concerning almost no eating- even his favorite treats of sunflower seeds and papaya bits have been turned away, and of course he's not eating his pellets at all.
He DID eat a bit of my eggs with me this morning, so my feeling is that he's just not used to the way his beak feels now, with his bottom beak a bit shorter. Is this normal? Has anyone else had a bird just seem to *sulk* like this? Is there anything I can do, other than give him lots of love, to help him snap out of it?
It was very traumatic for him, poor baby. I hope he gets back to his normal self soon.
