Hello, my name is Alexis and I just have brought home my first cockatoo...he is a goffin and his/her name is Kirby. :white1: Now he is so sweet, he came from a local pet shop where they breed their own birds and take amazing care of them! I've read all I can about G2s..So no problems there at least not yet anyways haha... But after bringing him home i put him in his cage and he was like a little Tasmanian devil.. The place I got him from had him on a playtop cage which is extremely similar to the one I bought him.. But he has been scaling the bars for a while and won't perch long.. Is that normal? But here's a quick picture I got of his cute little crest...

Any advice or suggestions would be much appreciated!!

Congratulations on your new little guy. Goffin's and many cockatoos are SO super busy and active. You'll find he uses every inch of his cage... He'd also eventually love a huge collection of all different kinds of toys, including "smart toys" he'll have to use his brain to figure out. :)

it is adjusting to it's new home so give him time.. My aunts did the same thing.. Spend time talking with it and touching it to increase the bond between eachother and it will come around.. It is stressful for some birds to leave the only thing they knew to a strange home, noises, people and having to adjust to surrounding again..

Hello lexidoodle10, that is a beautiful bird! I love that pastel yellow. Kirby looks like a very happy guy in the pic. So glad he found you :)

Trick with Goffins [is they need to learn to keep busy [when not seeing you]. try all kinds of toys [meaning different materials]. My Toos keep busy shredding newspaper and cardboard boxes. Try to set a realistic time out with you schedule he can count on . It doesn't have to be long periods of time , just be consistent . Have your whole family talk and acknowledge him.Toos throw their food out of their dishes [and its a huge mess. but don't be discouraged [that's what they do. ]. A lot of times they climb down and eat the food they have thrown. They may seem picky but keep trying.
