I mailed Popeye's feather sample Friday afternoon and Poppy's results were posted today. I didn't expect to know for a couple of weeks. That was fast service. I'm very impressed with the company. I love science.

It explains a lot about Poppy's behavior.

Poppy!! :D She really looks sweet. Now she's going to be wondering why you're pronouncing her name slightly differently.... Mom?? What did you call me?! :52: lol

Now you have to let the old owner know, and rub it in her face since she thought you were ridiculous thinking she was female! Kidding haha!

ROFLMAO @ myself. Oh boy, Allee, was I having a beaucoup slow moment here for a second.

I actually....even if only for a split second thought you got another 'too. :54:

WOW, those results were lightning fast. LOVE the name Poppy, and I'm sure she does, too. :D

She's a looker, no doubt about that, and she LOVES strutting her stuff, doesn't she? :D

LOL Wendy- don't worry, I was confused for a second too, but I blame that on my lack of coffee lol

I was thinking hmmmm Poppy sure looks familiar... DUH!! *face palm*

Allee I'm surprised that Popeye's true identity is Miss Poppy! It's really weird going from calling Poppy a him to a her, isn't it? Will you still call her a him? (Wow this is getting confusing lol)

She is so sweet but I am confused when I was younger and worked for my breeder friend we always sexed mature cockatoos by eye color it was almost always 100% correct especially with umbrellas. Brown eyes were girls, black boys. Was there something that was making you doubt eye color sexing in her?

Allee! That first pic is absolutely beautiful!!! What rich plumage! And those eyes! So deep and soulful. So knowing!

And good call on her gender! A mother's instincts, perhaps?

I'm with Julie, 4dugnlee and Terry. Rub it in! "In yo' face, former owner!" (Arm fully extended and palm literally in the face! Hahaha! Physical mushing, optional. Ha!) Of course I realize that I've given that advice in vain, as you are far too sweet to take it, but figured I'd put it out there anyhow. :p)

Thanks everyone! When we adopted Poppy, we were told she was a DNA tested male. After a couple of months I started to seriously doubt it. The previous owner was absolutely sure the bird was male. When I suggested having her tested, the woman threw a fit. I've never personally communicated with this woman except through my son, she's one of his clients.

After Scott answered a few questions for me, I was pretty sure I was right. The brown eyes was more proof but I wasn't 100% sure so I sent in the feathers.

Shirre, it was really more confusing calling Poppy a he. Terry57 and I have been referring to her as a she for a while now.

I don't think Poppy cares, she's known all along. Poppy is her new formal name, but I've called her Pidey Pie at home and that's how she refers to herself.

Wendy, I wish I was brave enough to adopt another Too but not yet.

Leanna and Julie, I intend to send a copy of Poppy's certificate along to her former owner. Ha ha, but she'll probably say it's not the same bird. I'll let my son handle that.

Is Popeye going to have two "hatch days?" One as a presumed male, the other as a female, courtesy of Science?

Haha Scott, I'm sure Poppy would love having two b-day celebrations! We don't know Poppy's actual hatch day, so we celebrate her Gotcha Day. If she gets more than one her flock mates would probably riot. Poor baby, she's been called a male for eight years.

That's so exciting! Poppy is such a gorgeous girl - it totally explains her flare of perfectly posing for every photo, too!
