ok so Roxie is one year old and recently she often does what she does in the video alot!! and it hurts! i dont know why this is happening she is healthy, plays and everything but once she is out her cage and on me she starts doing that! she once did it on my face and thank god i evaded. and just now my hand and legs. she didnt do it before so often like only one soft nip every now and then. but now since like 2 weeks ago its every time. i try to ignore it or try to keep Roxie busy but it started to get really hard on the biting. :( how to stop it?

Maybe bite pressure training?

Birdman has posted lots of information about why and how to bite pressure train.

I agree - this looks like it's a game for the bird, no malice intended, so the trick is to teach the bird how much they can use their beak before it hurts you. I've done this with my galah, but it's probably better to look for Birdman666's posts on the subject rather than hear about my amateur attempts!

I'd keep her well away from your face unless you 100% trust her not to do any damage, which it doesn't sound like is the case here - not all birds are temperamentally suited to being allowed on shoulders even when well trained.

Yeah. That looks like ordinary bird rough housing to me... she's just doing it a little too hard.

Communication, and stop the game when she gets too rough. If she wants to play, she has to be gentle with it.

I have a greenwing macaw that plays almost exactly like that NOSE TO BEAK...

I agree...looks like an excited happy U2 playing. I would do what Birdman666 says. She has to understand what is too much.

how to stop it exactly, what is the most effective way.
because every time when i try to wiggle my arm and say a firm "No" she gets more aggressive at it that i have to put her on timeout in the cage, the timeout works out for a while and then she is back at it, lol. she is so stubborn. :white1:

No. Wiggling the hand is something you do when a biter attempts to latch on. It doesn't prevent a playful parrot from playing.

http://www.parrotforums.com/macaws/48181-what-s-your-bite-pressure-training-technique.html

The training phrase I use is "That's too hard." And the minute the bird starts applying too much pressure, the bird gets set down for a second. The game is paused.

Pick the bird up again. Too rough? Set the bird down again.

Until the bird associates "that's too hard" with what the bird is doing.

The bird has to "get" the cause and effect. If it wants to play, it has to learn to play gently.

Dear Rox, I'm no expert but it looks like ruffhousing, she's a big bird and muscular ;she's enjoying herself. You need to let her know now it hurts! From the clip it doesn't seem like you let her know this is not ok behavior. I know your concerned about upsetting her but she doesn't realize she's done anything wrong. Its clear she feels safe with you just set limits. Cry a little ham it up she'll get the picture. Best Wishes, Bonita :green2::rainbow1:
