I saw one of these beauties today at a family owned store here. Gorgeous, full feather, calm, and needing a home! Thankfully way beyond my price point! Would've come home...

Thank you guys! ! He is well taken care of leakp I love my boy but they are a lot of work! Thankfully I am able to spend ample time with him and give him the nutrition that he needs. I rescued him from an abusive home.

I give you much credit for having what it takes to successfully keep an M2. Not too many people really can, but they are gorgeous birds for the rare owner who can cater to their needs physically, psychologically, and lifestyle wise long term. I couldn't

About 10 years ago I was in a bird store who had a previously abused male M2 as the store pet. This particular bird was dangerous and shouldn't have been left out where he could potentially maim customers. I was looking at a bird next to him, and before I knew it, he climbed on his stand close enough to me and forcefully grabbed my glasses right off of my face and slammed them on the ground like he was angry ! It was so quick I didn't even have time to react. The glasses were okay thankfully, but I'm glad I had them on or else I might not have one eye now!

Well thank you so much!! He can be quite the handful sometimes but I have learned to read him for the most part. He ,like any other male moluccan , can be dangerous at times. I have realized how truly undomesticated parrots really are and that we shouldn't necessarily have them as pets. You have to a mutual respect for them. When we went to pick him up from the person's house he was frightened and he bit me badly. To the point that I had a large softball size black bruise and puncture wounds on my bicep. Which to this day are scars. He still can be aggressive especially when he is on top of tall items like his cage, but I minimize that type of interaction. On the flip side, he can be the sweetest cuddle bug and loves to get on you and snuggle! As for your interaction with that pet store moluccan, that is down right scary!! That poor bird shouldn't have been in a pet store! I'm glad you didn't get hurt!! Hopefully the store owner realized how big of a danger he/she is and put her/him somewhere safe. Unfortunately I believe they are one of the most discarded birds out there. People get them as cute cuddly babies and before they know it they have a loud sometimes maybe all the time aggressive birds on their hands. They don't know how to handle either issue so the discard of them I for one would like to set money aside and make sure if I ever couldn't possibly care for him or I passed away that he would be taken to a sanctuary where I have volunteered. They do lifetime of care. In which they have half foot ball sized aviaries with part of it being indoor with live trees. It's just what is right for an animal that will out live you. Thanks again!

M2s are indeed challenging. I've had one for about 25 years and I suspect he is a rather old bird. Never had issues with moodiness or hostility, but he chronically plucks a small quadrant of his abdomen - all other feathers are excellent. Took him to a vet, found no evidence of illness, but donned the vet-recommended cone of shame. Took it off after a few days as he was miserable.

Big Bird has the most unlimited of freedoms I can provide. Never locked in a cage, he has free roam of the bird-room. There is a Citron and 4 Goffins to interact with; they all take turns grooming him and he does reciprocate. Plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, etc. He was most likely wild caught and is friendly but absolutely NOT cuddly!

Wow that amazing and wonderful! ! How do you keep them from chewing the walls up? I would like to do something like that but I wouldn't have walls left. Lol. My boyfriend and I will hopefully be building an out aviary for him this spring.

I decided very early to "sacrifice" the room to the birds - to an extent!

The floor was tiled for cleanliness, but is constantly covered with changeable "painters plastic" for protection. All of the paint and window slat coverings are non-toxic. Early on they chewed some of the baseboards, door trim, and the edge of the door. So far they have not ever chewed the wall material. If I ever sell the home, it wouldn't be terribly expensive to rehab the affected areas.
