Cali's mutilation wound is healing better and better. I'll keep posting pics in the other thread as it closes, and hopefully gets hidden by down once again. But the healing means it is time to focus on her vision and hearing. I'll try to get photos of those issues to post.
For anyone that didn't read her story in the other thread, she was stabbed by her owner's daughter 12 years ago (only been with me about 2 months). The owner's vet recommended a skin graft, but they could not afford it, so she never got one.
The right side of her head has damage that prevents her eye from closing completely. So it dries up, and crusts over. I have a feeling her eye may be damaged beyond repair, and she'll always be blind on that side. There is also a hole for her ear, but it sits about half an inch below the ear structure. So sound coming in there is muffled. She has VERY few feathers on that side.
The left side of her head has sagging skin and feathers around her eye. It leaves her with a "pinched" eyelid, but it DOES shut. However, it pulls skin over the back 3/4 of her eye causing vision loss from plain old blockage. I think this one is very fixable, since the actual eyeball is fine. She does still react to things in that limited vision field, so I have lots of hope. Behind the sagging skin though, is a VERY thin layer of skin, where I can actually see her muscles and skull. What I do NOT see is an ear hole, nor any structure for an ear under the skin.
So she can barely hear (muffled at best), and she can barely see. I want to get these issues fixed as much as possible, so she can have as good of a life as possible. She's only a young 20 years old!
And the evaluation appointment has now been set. On February 6th, at 10am (eastern) we will be going to the vet and discussing everything that CAN be done to restore her vision and hearing. The vet will finally look at everything to see if it CAN be fixed, and how.
The following week, we'll be going into a hotel for some remodeling, and she'll probably go under the knife. I can not WAIT to click for my baby girl, and have her SEE me! I'm so excited!
