So I finally was able to get my Goffin his new cage. Wow does it seem big.. Is there any advice out there on how to make my baby feel comfortable in his new cage? He is pretty out going, but things do make him unsure. Right now the new cage is sitting next to him while he is in his current cage, I haven't yet transferred his perches/branches or toys over. But tonight I'm going to start to figure out where to place things.

Thanks:white1:

That is really pretty. Is it an Avian Adventures? If so, I think you're going to love it. I have some that are over 10 years old that look brand new. They have really held up well. Mine are the old emerald green color (they no longer make that color). I liked them so well that I got another one for my parrotlet, also the ruby color. I really like it, too. Hope your bird enjoys his new cage.

It is an Avian Adventures cage. I just put it together last night. It was super easy. It does have a couple "scratches" but it did come with some touch up paint. I am just hoping that their powder coating can hold up to a small cockatoo. I was torn between Avian Adventures and Kings Cage. I think what I liked the best is that Avian Adventures has a warranty, its a smooth finish (easier to clean up cockatoo dust) and it came with a harder wood perch. I am just hoping that I can get Sheldon adjusted to it.

I have a RB cockatoo in that same cage (except it's a play top instead of dome). He's been in there since he came home as a newly weaned baby, almost 12 years ago. That cage still looks almost brand new, no rusting at all. It's also the glossy paint (no texture). One thing I can suggest is to not clean it with vinegar, which is really popular as a cleaner. It really dulled the finish when I used it. Now, I disinfect with Avi-clens or steam clean and then I use Nature's Miracle cage wipes (they work well and don't REEK like the Poop Off cage wipes do).

I also have a couple of Kings cages. They are nice and I like them, too, but I really do prefer the Avian Adventures cages. I think you're going to be really happy you chose that brand.

That's a nice cage! Unusual color too, don't see too many burgundy cages:)

How's he reacting to it? Does he seem curious or frightened? My dad has a goffin who needs a new cage every couple years because he tears his up, and he's never had any issues whatsoever transitioning from cage to cage. If he is frightened, I might give him a few days to look at it and do some encouragement for him to explore using treats and toys. If he seems curious, it should be pretty easy once it's all set up:) I'm sure even if he's a bit timid at first, he'll end up loving his new home!

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
No such thing as a cage too large for a Goffin!

If you equip it with a few perches and lots of chew toys he should quickly adapt. My Goffins are eager adopters of most anything new and will typically start chewing a new wood toy almost immediately.

I have 5 toys in his cage, 2 that came from his old cage and 3 new... I also have all but one new perch in there. So I have 4 different perches all together. He seems to be curious about it. But yet what is this??? Its hard for me to set up cause he LOVES the upper right front corner for his roosting. But can't do that in this cage due to the bowls being directly below it. So I'm trying to get the perches right. He has sort of "explored" it. just un-sure really. I was going to try to let him sleep in it tonight but I might just give him one more night into his old cage and let him explore the new one all day tomorrow when I can watch him...

Holy cow he tears the cages up?? wow!!! Sheldon has been in a very cheap flight cage - though large in size, just not the best cage for his type of parrot. Which I think is why this cage is such a shock LOL. Bigger bars and seems a lot more spacious.

Very nice cage! I bet Sheldon will love his new home in no time!

A non destructive Too, it's hard to imagine. If I put my U2 in a flight cage, she'd take it apart and play with the pieces.

Alfie is an exceptionally naughty and highly intelligent goffin. He would rip a flight cage for smaller birds apart. He actually disassembled a species-approrpiate sized cage from the inside once. I don't think they all need the "security measures" or enjoy the same "activities" he does though:rolleyes: As I said, he is exceptionally naughty.

Sounds like Sheldon is settling in:) I mean, it has a treat bowl, what more could a bird look for in a home:D I bet he'll love his new cage!

Nice cage....as the saying goes, the bigger the better as birds have room to stretch their wings and not feel cramped. people say "is that cage too big for your Senegal??" He has a cage built for a good size bird. He loves it. poppie and vinny have similar cages like you have there with the exception that I added a play tier on top, and a large rope ring above that. My ceilings are nearly 12 feet high. My Grey has the largest cage, built for a Macaw. Plenty of room for him and he loves the space and play top.

Looks great! Some birds settle in a new cage right away, some like Raven take some time to adjust. I think the more extroverted outgoing birds adjust more quickly.

I love the burgundy! :) I know it's one of Avian Adventures colors... I personally have to have black or that black color with gray vein, and AA doesn't make that color :(. Too bad, otherwise I'd love to try them. I hear they're one of the best cages out there available to us in the US.

They make a solid gray one (textured).. :)

He seems to be settling in pretty well, he found out that he can "grind" on the bars to make them "rattle" so we will see how good they hold up to that.

:)

Thanks :). I've seen that gray they have. It's a nice color, but it's too light. I prefer that all of mine match lol. I once had a different color cage and it really bothered me!

Griffin used to bite on the bars which I hated cause he chipped the powder coating right off it, and was nervous what's under it. I guess it's safe metal unless it rusts (it's a fairly new cage). A real cheapy! If your bird does that, Avian Adventures would probably hold up a little better?

What I did was put tons of his favorite toys right in the area that he used to bite the bars. Knock on wood it has been working.

I have a ten month old red tailed black cockatoo, she has only ever lived inside with us, but she is getting too noisy in the house, and I really want her to enjoy being outdoors. She is such a scardy cat though, each time I try to introduce her to the new aviary she completely freaks out! How do I transition her to the new outdoors life without stressing her out?[/U]
