Bird Talk

My little Goffins goes to bed at about 8 pm. Dennis likes me to turn off the lights and leave. I go upstairs where I rule the roost, and I get to have lights and TV all I want. It's much easier to do that than listen to the incessant screaming if I don't do it.

But, of course my kitchen is downstairs, and sometimes I like to return to the refrigerator--you know how that is! Cold water, ice cubes...so I went downstairs around 9 pm or so, clearly violating the rules of the house. Light on, I tell Dennis don't worry, I'll leave soon, just getting something. He talks bird talk to me from his perch.

Now, in all the time I have had Dennis, the only thing I have ever heard him say which I felt is really something he was actually saying, is "I'm okay." So, I started including that in the silly stuff I say to him. "I'm okay, Dennis. Are you okay?" He responded in bird talk, and I said additional stuff to him, mostly reassuring him that I would leave again. Then, I said it again. "I'm okay. Are you okay?"

And, he yelled, "OKAY!!!" Clear as a bell. And very loudly. And then he started screaming. I got my stuff, turned out the light and said goodnight. Might have to get a fridge upstairs.

Lol. How DARE you disturb Dennis' beauty sleep?! Sounds like you upset him too. Hope he won't be cranky in the morning:p I think a mini-fridge upstairs is a must!

Ours can sleep through lights, talking, TV, my husband getting home from work at 3:30 in the morning ext... but whenever the heater goes on in the winter, he wakes up and does a feather ruffle and occasionally makes a birdie curse word. Not sure what about that noise wakes him up. It's not loud at all. Parrots are funny little creatures.

Poor Rocky wants to go to bed about 7:30 p.m. but his cage is in the living room and we are of course still up and watching TV. We turn off the lamp nearest his cage and we try not to be noisy, but the TV's only a few feet away and his cage cover in the summer isn't that heavy. He mutters and sometimes he says "hello" or "I love you" and sometimes he just grumbles. There's no other place to put his cage and he wouldn't like that, anyway. He wants to be in the thick of things.
