A present from Rocky

After a honeymoon period followed by a challenging period of very naughty too-ness, Rocky has been a model parrot the last week. On Saturday, we were sitting on the porch (he likes to hold court there) and he regurgitated onto my leg.

My budgie does this regularly (it's a lot less messy when HE does it) and one Quaker pretends to for form's sake but doesn't actually deposit anything. The other Quaker does it but doesn't spit it out. (Sorry, all this is gross, I know) Rocky presented me with quite the offering and I was sort of at a loss. I don't want to encourage mating behavior because I don't want him to see me as his mate. My experience with my male Quaker getting that notion was bad enough. I can't imagine the violence of a male 'Too who is frustrated with a human "mate" after what Clyde the Quaker has put me through. Yet another parrot friend seemed unconcerned when I told her, and said it's just a sign that he loves me and wants to show me he loves me.

Anybody want to weigh in on their experience with this? I am careful to pet Rocky only on his head and sometimes his feet. I don't pet under his wings or down his back.

My GCC does this too and I just ignore it and change activities. Sometimes when I am scratching her head it happens so I stop scratching her and get a toy to play with.

Rosa does this from time to time. Its pretty rare though. She is easily distracted, and we mostly ignore and move on. She's much more likely to randomly start panting and backing her booty to us, tail flipped up. She really is a weird, weird parrot. :/ Even head pets can get her riled up, when she gets to panting I tell her 'Ok, Rosa, its time to cool down' and put her in her cage for a bit. She generally goes for a nap. HAHAHA Like a lil old lady. Bit of excitement just does her in.

Rocky hasn't done that yet. I hope he doesn't. He isn't easy to distract. Fortunately, yesterday, he just sat on my knee and held court, and then got up on my shoulder, which I'd rather he didn't do. I've been chomped on the ear by a that same bossy Quaker and that hurts enough that I definitely don't want to experience that with Rocky, who would likely rip my ear OFF. So he's on my shoulder and I'm trying to coax him back onto my arm when a neighbor goes by running (working out running, not running from anything) and the dogs both went berserk. So, naturally, Rocky had to join in. He's a watch parrot, you know. LOL Up went the crest, out came the wings and he started doing the Too Bounce and the Car Alarm. On my shoulder. YIKES. Hubby went to work on the dogs (and shutting them up is a wasted effort) trying to quiet them down so Rocky would calm down, and I kept saying, "it's okay, Rocky, calm down, Rocky, be a good Rocky 'Too" and finally he settled down, but only after the dogs had finished their yapping and shut up on their own. Oy.
