I am considering buying a major mitchel too in the next few years. If anyone has experience with them I would love to know what they are like. Particuarly if they get along with other birds? I have heard the males can be aggressive so i was considering a female. Im not worried about dealing with biting/aggression to humans because I have experience and can definately handle it, but I would like something that could live peacfully and possibly get along with my other birds.

I've only met one and it was a former breeder that ended up in a pet shop because he killed his last couple of mates... probably not what you want to hear. It was a sweet bird towards people though. They're pretty big birds that could do a lot of damage to a small conure so you'd have to be very cautious with them.

We have a few MM owners in the forum so hopefully someone will be along with a more in depth answer.

Years ago I encountered 2 of these beauties (caged separately), and I remember they were very...... loud. :54:

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.

I don't want to editorialize nor make value judgments for others, but I could never pair a murderously aggressive male with subsequent hens.

My wild-caught and seemingly well bonded Goffins lived in harmony for about 22 years before the attacks began. First attempt against the female resulted in a few bitten toes and a vet visit. Second and final attack ended with scarring to her face and minor flesh wounds. That was enough to establish sufficient grounds for permanent separation. Peanut (female) is now very tame and lives with her children and others while Popcorn (male) lives in a large flight cage with lots of human interaction.

Presently have six Greenwing Macaw (17 yo), Red Fronted Macaw (12 yo), Red Lored Amazon (17 y.o.), Lilac Crowned Amazon (about 43 y.o.) and a Congo African Grey (11 y.o.)
Panama Amazon (1 Y.O.)
Never worked with them. They're beautiful, but they are supposed to be not especially cuddly... not what you normally think of as a pet quality too.

They do have a reputation of being aggressive with other birds. Especially the males.

Personally, if you were looking for a pet quality too that gets along with all the others, I'd go with that other pink too... RB2.

MOST PERSONABLE OF THE BUNCH IN MY OPINION.

What Mark (Birdman) said above is what I've usually heard about the species. Not the most cuddly of Toos. Especially when mature, if they have the hormonal behavior along with their relatively large size and non-cuddliness, it can be a challenge. That probably isn't the kind of pet most people are expecting, when they think of getting a beautiful pink Cockatoo.

I see them at the bird store sometimes, and they're exquisitely beautiful to look at.

What is an RB2? Is it a galah? Im in Australia so named might be different.
As for noise level and cuddlyness i really dont mind. The main reason i want a too is because i know they are very good freefliers and i need to add something bigger and more reliable to keep my ff flock in formation on big flights. I have a 10 meter avairy for day time and 2 acres so noise and size isnt an issue.
