Whirly- Galah
Hi all,
Our galah will be moving into a new bigger aviary (outdoor).
Was thinking it would be nice to have a plant or tree in a pot, inside the aviary.
Wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a tree or plant galahs really like??
At this stage I'm thinking of a red-flowering gumtree (corymbia calophylla), because they look nice, they do ok in a pot, and they produce gumnuts?
I'm also wondering if in reality our galah will just strip the plant and it won't survive..
I might try it anyway

I love your idea :). A gumtree of some kind would be ideal (like what you said) as ( I live in Australia ) often the galahs will chew and play on gumtrees. however as you intend to keep the tree alive there may be a bit of a problem. the reality is whatever tree you put in to the aviary will probably end up being chewed to death as that's just how parrots :blue1: are. if you decide to put some trees in I recommend that you put a few different ones in as this will give each tree some time to recover after being chewed. good luck :D:41:

If you plant a few trees in the garden, eucalyptus, willow etc and cut what you want for the aviary, it will provide fresh leaves for shade and chewing materials and if big enough branches to perch on too. Planting out in the garden will provide the tree(s) with the opportunity to achieve better growth and you more cutting opportunity.
