Yes it means exactly what the posting title says. I did not realize till today that a too would stimulate themselves. This went on for approximately 15 minutes. Has anyone had this happen before? Let me start from the beginning. I have a female U2 named Sheba who is 7 or 8 years old. She is over stimulated according to the Vet due to not only hormones but also the way her prior owner handled her and also with little attempt to being switched to a proper diet.After a 28 day courtship and a re homing fee of $800.00 We had bonded pretty well and I was feeling pretty confident about the transition. She arrived around 10 pm with Rocky the night before last, which was upsetting for all of us. After her prior owner left, Sheba decided to free flight into a window and broke the tip of her upper beak, but thank God there were no other injuries. After that I picked her up and calmed her down and about a hour later after some cuddles I put her to bed which was very rough. She became aggressive after me shutting her cage door and banging her beak very hard against the bars. Finally stopped when I covered her up. But when 5:30 am rolled around she began her flock scream and our day began. I collected their dishes and filled her with fruit pellets and her other bowl with fresh water. Rocky also with water and fresh seed. I waited for a bit and then introduced her to the 3 dogs. The fur faces are all Chow Lab mixes which seemed to go pretty well at the time. I have 2 older gals 9 yrs and 12 yrs who did not pay much attention to Sheba but I have great concern about the 16 month male that I have who was very curious about her. I am very cautious having him around her. After the introduction a short time after is when I let Sheba out which she came out immediately along with Rocky, with the fur faces in the back yard. Rocky on his Bongo rope and then put her on her play stand which I had placed in a corner of my living room. We began playing with toys and I observed her putting her pellets in her water and then eating them. She ate or drank very little the whole day and had not spoke very much. I left the room to sweep the kitchen floor and make sure Roco was okay when I hear her with a long multiple low chicken sound, and again a few seconds later. I stop, look at her and there she is stimulating her self on her play stand by positioning her tail feathers and lower back side against another perch. I walked over to her and moved the perch stopping the stimulation. I felt bad about not being able to offer her a smoke when she got finally done. I forgot to mention that prior to all of this she had laid an egg just 45 minutes before she was brought over to me which I did not know till she had arrived. After the self stimulation we had a major personality change, it was aggressive, and she began screaming sessions so I gave her some time alone not sure of exactly what to do, but kept talking to her in a low soothing voice, She was puffed up also and was displaying aggressive behavior and would not step up so I could take her to her cage, it took me almost 45 minutes. I put her to bed 30 minutes before sunset. After being covered up along with Rocky she began screaming, with no reaction from me, She would then say HELLO!. hello? then scream some more, This went on for about 20 mins and then silence. Just after dark I hear her throwing her water and food dish to the bottom of her cage which had been just cleaned and refilled fresh and of course fresh lining on the bottom. She is molting also I believe, I do not want to think that she may be plucking. It is the beginning stages if she is plucking. I already love her due to her amazing personality and knowing what a great companion she will become. I plan to get her on a much better diet and hope to begin training just as soon as I can She is very picky and does not like anything according to her prior home. She also has had a rough and sad past per her prior owner, who had never owned a parrot before, I want us to be together forever and I am committed to Sheba for the rest of my life. We will get this figured out I was raised with 3 Macaws and a Mulligan growing up and my Dad gave me a Sulfur Crested Too on my 16th Birthday who died 4 years ago. There is no other love better then the bond with a Too as far as I am concerned. Sorry about this being so long but it was important to give detailed history so you other Too lovers could maybe help us. I am going to begin with her diet when we wake up this morning. I also am going to start her foraging today. It is real late, and my growing flock gets up early. Thanks in advance for any questions or comments that you may have.
