Hey Ya'll I have a question about something I have not encountered before. I went to get raz out of her cage a little while ago and noticed that her vent was dirty. she does not seem to acting any different than normal she is her usual sweet loving self and even let me (with a normal amount of protest) flip her over and use a warm damp rag to clean her off. She is eating normal (by that I mean diving head first into the food bowl to find the brussle sprout I put in it) and I have not changed her food or anything. the only thing that is different is a toy was moved in her cage and I have a sneaking suspicion she was spending a good amount of time climbing the side of her cage to get a better angle to destroy the new intruder.
Should I be seriously concerned? Do I need to take her to the vet first thing in the morning or just watch her and play it by ear. This is not something I have encountered in the past so I'm just not sure how serious it is.

Just some quick Raz info.

2 -2.5 yr old galah cockatoo, zoopream mixed with seed and lots of fresh veg/fruit she is currently acting sleepy but is also typically in her cage over an hour and a half ago so its well past her bed time. besides the dirty vent she does not show any other symptoms. Her feathers are clean no nasal discharge, and she is preening as normal.

Firstly, I would move the toy and see if she ends up with a soiled vent again. Secondly consider it a yellow flag and observe her for a few days, if you think there is anything else then a trip to the AV is sensible IMO. Has she been for a check up lately anyway?

Can I ask if the Zupreem pellets contain colours and if so can you get her onto a natural pellet ie no additives please? RB2's are prone to health problems and need the best diet possible. Just from experience with my Plum if he is given seed he will eat this before anything else and then ask for more, obviously the veggies and a natural organic pellet are the first choices and fruits and seeds after that. BUT if you can soak and sprout the seeds then that makes them a number one food, goes from bottom of list to the top LOL. Thanks for asking for advice and would love to see your girl Raz :)

Great advise for my UK friend!

I would add, only because I did not see it in your information, to double check her droppings. See if they are looser than normal or harder than normal. Either could result in the droppings not falling cleanly away from the vent. In addition, either could indicate an underlining problem.

FYI: Happy to see you around the Forums!
