update: 15 year old adopted Goffin's Cockatoo

Baby has been in our home 10 days now and she seems to be adapting. We are slowly continuing to build trust. She actually put her foot on my finger and let me touch her feet. I'm no pro, but feel that's a step towards gaining her trust. I bought her a new toy, it's the ball with bell in middle. I put it in her cage last night and I was gone for a few hours today and when I returned she had chewed half the ball off 😀. I know they love to chew wood, but if that keeps her busy and she like it, I don't mind buying them weekly. She also has wooden toys that she chews, but she seemed to really like the rubber toy. I'm still trying to learn cockatoo behavior😂, read the body, but it's a little tough to understand what she's doing or saying when she has her cockatoo moments. Any tips on body language would be great! thanks

Baby is beautiful and apparently in good feather. Seems she is beginning to trust and that is the start of a great relationship. Goffins body language is pretty straightforward with an emotionally fueled crest that rises frequently. Fluttering wings generally signals the desire for closeness, while a raised foot is either caution or signaling to step up. Unlike Amazons, their eyes don't wildly "pin" with great emotion.

Mine greatly prefer chewing wood like buzz saws, but they are all different!!

It is very possible that the wood toys that you are providing may be on the harder side. A quick check is to use your finger nail. If you can easily cause a dent, the wood is likely soft enough. If not, save the toy for when Baby is older, like in six months or so.

Regarding rubber toys. Make it a point to quickly remove the small pieces of rubber. Although they are a great chew toy, once broken into small parts it is possible for them to get caught in their Crop. No reason for going nuts about this, just recommending removing the bits, whether rubber, wood, plastic, paper, etc....

Thanks for the replies. I'm glad she likes our home. I also have a cockatiel and a Sun Conure, so I'm sure she likes the company. She actually stepped up 2 days ago and I was so happy. We're both learning to trust each other but of course it's baby steps. I placed her back on cage after she stepped up, but she did it twice so that was a big thing. Her feathers seem to be growing in nicely, too. I have another thread I'm starting on food.

she really looks cute , congratulation. i have 3 types of cockatoos and i feel like there personality is over the kind behavior. one of them a female, she like to be aviary, the worse case is she like to chew everything she sees. if she caged and she want to go out and no one is looking at her she yall and doing weird move. the next one just put a food for him all the time ( galah )and he will be fine. the last one is the noisy , he screams a lot with or without a reason. he like to be cuddled all the time. his eating habits is a bit annoying he put his beak on his food and he pull his face out he took one piece of food and in the same time he throw alot of food away . within few min he is screaming due to no food in his box.

he screams while playing , chewing . if he is board or not. you can't understand him. he is so lazy. crying like a little child sometimes.

be careful if your parrot is trying to go out from the cage by her self . this lazy one he broke his finger while doing it and he lost a lot of blood during his injury.
u need to understand when he is board , need to eat , need to cuddle , need to go out from her cage and whes cold..

the worst case is when your bird is having a pain and as u know they can't explain anything . i faced it before , when it happend i rushed to the vet and i found out there are worms in his stomach.
