I have a Cinnamon Green Cheek Conure named Kiwi and a dove named Squeakers that thinks parrots are stupid.
:blue2:

It appears not much study has been done on M2s. I have been searching for information regarding wild M2 behavior in their natural habitat, but am having difficulty.

Does anyone know of any resources/references out there other than the typical wiki/encyclopedic overviews containing the basic information (size, diet, lifespan, etc.)? I am looking for more detailed information, especially in regards to their natural social behavior.

From what little information I could find, unlike U2s and other cockatoo species, M2s are usually seen solitary or in small family groups (I assume this means parents with their young).

This kind of species specific information would obviously be applicable in knowing how to better provide for M2 emotional needs in captivity.

Thanks!

ETA: When I said M2s are usually seen solitary, it is not to imply they are not social birds that form strong familial bonds. The context of the source implied that little study has been done on wild M2 behavior and being endangered, they are not seen very often - and when they are, it is by itself or in a small family group. In other words, unlike many other cockatoo species that are doing fine in the wild and seen in large flocks, the situation with M2s is a bit different.

Hopefully that makes sense.

(If anyone has information to the contrary, please point me there ... I have tried to confirm or find information to the contrary, but have not found anything).

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Welcome to the forums!

Hopefully a member with more information can help you. Perhaps there are studies available online, especially conducted in the native regions of Indonesia? Best I can find is a short Wiki article with some links at the bottom: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salmon-crested_cockatoo

Thanks for the responses.

I am expecting a call from my avian vet on Monday on an unrelated issue, I will ask her too. Her experience and passion is exotic wild-life, she will probably be able to point me in the right direction :)
