Hey everyone, there is a local pet shop near where I live that I never shop at 'cause of the prices, but the last time I was in there I saw that they have a lesser suffer crested 'too, it's in a huge cage with practically nothing else in it. I felt really sorry for it but didn't think much about it at the time. But I drive by there several times a week and it's always there, somtimes hanging on to the sides of the cage 'cause it dosent have enough perches. Soooo after thinking about it for ahwile I decided that I should buy him some perches and toys and ask if I can put them in his cage. What does everyone think about this? It'd kinda be a win win for them as I don't want them to pay me for the stuff and they don't seem to be doing very well. I don't know if the bird's for sale, I don't remember seeing a price tag, but I know I couldn't afford that right now otherwise I'd just buy it. Any thoughts are welcome!

I say go for it. Why not. Go about it in a nice way, because some people would refuse just because of pride getting in the way if they feel youre hinting they arent doing a good job or dont know what theyre doing, though I have no problem being RUDE if it comes down to a person or animal being neglected or treated unfairly. I think a good way to go about it would say hey, everytime I pass here I see that cockatoo and I love him so much, I wish I had the time for him but since I dont, I would love to donate a few things if you wouldnt mind putting them in the cage with him. Sometimes its about kissing butt for the good of the animal no matter how bad you want to scream at the people.

Good for you, I hope the store owners are receptive. I know the Too will appreciate everything you do for him. Please let us know how it works out.

You may want to buy something there at the store too just to seem supportive of them. Either way I hope they say yes and maybe even get the jist. It is totally possible that theres a reason the bird doesnt have much in the cage too, so keep an open mind, though I very highly doubt that especially since you say they do not seem to be doing so well. Who knows, maybe they will ask you to take him home and face that they cant take care of the poor bird.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
If the staff seems approachable you may wish to speak with them and inquire about the bird's situation. Regardless of status, it appears to need a nicer environment. How wonderful for you to observe and take steps to brighten his life. Who knows, you may one day bring him home!!

Have you been inside to visit the 'too? If so,was he receptive to you? Maybe the staff will see how you two got along and offer him at a mutual price? Just a thought.

I haven't really, would it be better to visit before I bought stuff? I would love that, the store is only about 10 mins from my house and I go that way a lot. I was thinking that when I brought stuff I would stay around and offer him some treats and see how friendly he is, and that would be such a dream if they offered him at a low price. I know pet stores are usually really pricey, but I'd love to be able to "rescue" him. Btw his name's Woodstock, isn't that the best name for a 'too?

This is what I was gonna order for him, can't figure out how to do a link but it's the Medium Munchy Swing from DrsFosterSmith, and a cable comfy perch and a birdie tent and a mineral block. How does that sound to you 'too people?

Hi you are so kind to want to help this poor cockatoo. You sounded like you would like to give him/her a home so, why not try and strike up a conversation with the shop and see what can be arrived at. An unhappy bird sitting in a cage is no advertisement in my eyes.

The birdie tent possibly should not be given, re chewing and the possible ingestion of fibres. Something that he/she could give their beak a good sanding on prob would be appreciated.

I agree with this, maybe instead of the tent get a shred/destroy/chew toy since they love to chew things up. Chewing will keep the beak busy and him entertained too which will be great, and chew toys are good cause theyre generally more easily to pick than some of the other toys since some birds can be quite picky about their toys. If you want something cuddly, there is this hanging blanket thing Ive seen, that attatches to the side above a perch where he can snuggle up, not sure if the fiber issue is the same with this though.
Also, to post a link all you do is go to the top of the page where the address is, highlight the whole thing with your mouse or double click it which should highlight it all and then press control c or right click and press copy, then paste it here into your response (control v to paste or right click and press paste).

Maybe a piniata sorta thing to shred up? And I almost forgot i have another perch, it's made of bee pollen and calcium and is supposed to be really good for them to chew on

I can almost guarantee that the 'too, and the staff, would really appreciate any gifts you would have to offer. ;)

And didn't Charlie Brown, and Snoopy, have a feathered friend named "Woodstock"?? :p Great name!

I'm very glad you are considering helping this poor birdie. I'm sure that he/she and the staff would love to accept your gifts. In my opinion, you should give him/her the basic things it needs in its life. More perches sounds good, as having birds clinging to the walls of the cage nearly the whole time can be very tiring for them! Again, I'm so glad you're trying to make the Cockatoo's life easier. Let us know of what happens. :)
