I was looking at a chart that Mang07 posted in answering a question about cage size and was surprised too see how many different birds are actually in the cockatoo family.
On the chart, the Black Palm Cockatoo appeared to be the largest. Is that generally true?
I also noticed a Blue Eyed cockatoo. Is it called that because it really has blue eyes or is that blue eye reference due to the blue "eyelid" type area around the actual eye?
Sorry if I don't call things by the right name but there's a lot to learn.

black palm is the biggest. I tried to price it but could not find any for sale. did find some vids on utube so they can be pets. I did find a baby Red Tailed and it was priced at 16k so I would think the black palm would run somewhere between 20 and 30k.

when I first started my bird journey I had a Toucan in mind till I priced them
at 20k+ some of these fellas can cost a bunch

not sure it is the biggest after seeing this video

From my understanding (though I am no bird expert!) palm cockatoos are, indeed, the largest and Moluccan cockatoos are often stated as "the largest" because they are the largest cockatoo commonly kept as a pet. (Black Palms cost a HUGE amount of money and are rare in the pet world.) Also, I believe the blue eyed cockatoo is so named for the lid, not the eye color. I think they have the same male=brown eyes, female=reddish brown as my galah does. Like I said, no expert here, but that is my understanding!

Black Palms are currently going for around 20k in the U.S., and yes the biggest.
As for the blue eyes, Im pretty sure its referring to the skin around the eye and not eye color.

I have a grand triton and he is a quite a bit smaller than he appears to be because he has a lot of large feathers and he's really fluffy. The skin around his eyes is very blue and his eyes are dark brown or black. I love cockatoos eyes I think they have some of the cutest eyes of any animal
