I'm really starting to fret, panic, wig out about bringing Bambam home Saturday. I've read to put him in the cage for a few days etc and let him get his bearings but Bambam knows me and he trusts me. It'll be a new place, new cage, some new faces and new animals but the constant is me so I do t think I can't just cage him and let him acclimate. For months I've visited 2-3 times a weeks for hours and hours, we've bonded and I think he'll be confused if I don't love on him and comfort him.
How did you all introduce your new birds into the household and were they previously bonded to you or pretty much brand new?
I'm looking forward to hearing how you all did this and how the family, pets and the U got along.
Thank you!!

Congrats on the upcoming homecoming!

The advice to leave them in the cage is for nervous birds who don't know you. The actual advise is to go at the birds pace, whatever they are comfortable with. If he wants to come out and be with you in the first day, let him out :) whatever makes him happy!

We've had birds for years, so we brought Rocky 'Too home, stuck his cage in a corner while we figured out where to put it long-term, and took him out of the carrier and set him on the cage. That was almost two years ago and he still has freedom to come and go all day long except overnight. Like most cockatoos, he's been shuffled from home to home so much that he probably figured he was only going to be with us temporarily, and he's probably a little surprised that he's still with us! But he's not going anywhere if I can help it, EVER again.

He seems to really like his new cage. The top opens and the front has a drop down panel and he's having or to sit either place. He also loves the boing and candelabra java perches.
He's pretty chill and like you all suggested we've let him come in and out at his own pace.
Having him home is wonderful!!
