Indian Ringneck
Galah Cockatoo
I just purchased a Galah cockatoo yesterday. In the store/rescue he was screaming and talking, exactly what I was looking for. He is 10 years old. I do have a Indian Ringneck as well.

Today has been very quite no talking except for quite whispers from Sampson my too.

What should I do to make sure he is comfortable. I noticed a little shaking this morning. He did talk to me a little and when I leave the room he will shrill.

I just want him as comfortable as possible doing this transition. I go back to work tomorrow but I only work 5 hours a day and home the rest of the time. He is in the main living area of my home.

Any suggestions would be great:grey:

Hi, nice roomy cage and some toys to get stuck into will go down well. Talk to him plenty and I am sure he will settle in quickly. Do you know if you need to quarantine him to protect your IRN? If Sampson calls you when you leave the room just call back from there, he will realise that you are still there even when out of sight.

Hi and thanks for adopting Sampson. I'm sure he will settle in in a few days.

And a Normal Grey Cockatiel named BB who came home with me on 5/20/2016.
Different birds take different times..When I got BB,he was only 4.5 months old,and he settled right in within hours of being here. When I adopted Jonesy the Goffin, it took a week or more. He shook a little too.

Talk to Samson as much as you can. Sit by his house and talk calmly and softly. Afford him with a couple toys. Try and see if he'll take treats from your fingers.

just be patient he'll come around soon enough.

Hi, new Galah mom myself :) already some good responses. Patience and attention are key from what I have learned so far. I def recommend you find his favorite treats and hand feed him while in his cage for a while, or just stand by his cage with the door open talking to him. If you know the words he says already, it may help to make sure you say those to him often.
