I am a new owner with regards to the cockatoo family. I formerly owned a yellow nape amazon.
Here are my questions. 1. When I talk to Sampson while holding him he constantly shakes his head. Like someone blowing on him. I am not that close so I don't know what could be causing it.

2. Why does he only talk when I leave the room?:white1:

There ain't no dumb questions, only unanswered questions!! :)

Can you clarify the type of head movement? Is it a deliberate bobbing up and down repeatedly, or a rapid rotation left to right? The head-bob is a common response or request for attention. Other rapid movements may be a nervous habit or possibly a medical issue.

Cockatoos can be very shy with talking, often not in your presence. Some less commonly do the same with eating. Perhaps over time Sampson will talk with you.

Hi, No 2 First, yes Plum is a closet talker also. Quite amusing to stand nearby and listen to him, instantly stops if I come into the room LOL. Keep talking to him and he will get braver. The other thing is he could just be trying words out, dry run LOL.

Plum head bobs from time to time, keep a watch on it but not too intently or will freak Sampson. Come back if you fail to come to an answer about this.

Yes no dumb questions here, some crazy answers now and again LOL. :)
