Wanted to share Peanuts new giant. He seems to be very happy and excited. There's a play stand on top and I have many many more toys on the way!

So, I tried attaching a large perch to the cage, but this particular perch seem to frighten Peanut to the extreme maybe because of its very odd shape. He was on top of the play stand at the time and when he got scared, he flew to another room with no light. I was lucky he wasn't hurt. I found him in the corner of the other dark room. He quickly stepped up and I placed him in the cage and gave him a grape to snack on. I feel that I should clip his wings for the time being while I train him. I have two training t stand on the way and I feel it will be best for his safety. Any advice for clipping his wings?

P.S.
He is feather plucking so much less and he is playing more with his toys and branching out to other fruits and vegetables. He showers regularly and our bond seems to be getting stronger!

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
The perfect cage, just the right size! Top playpens are ideal, sort of like having a loft.

Can't give much advice for clipping for training, perhaps other who have done so will post. On the plus side it might make Peanut more compliant and receptive.

Glad to see he is bonding better with you, it does take a while with cockatoos! Seems more likely your first instinct with Peanut in the pet shop was correct!

I have a similar style cage for my Peanut. The perch she seems to like the best is the wooden tree branch style perch. So maybe he'd like one of those.

I allowed Peanut to fly around the house for a while, but sometimes my older kids babysit her so I just felt more comfortable getting her wings clipped. The guy who did it knew what he was doing and clipped her just enough that she can still fly, but not full throttle across the house. She can fly off the top of her cage and land safely on the ground. You want to make sure the person knows what they're doing, you don't want someone to butcher his feathers so he drops to the ground like a potato.
