Display screaming?

Sponsored Links
For those of you unfamiliar, Jasper came to us last February. He was silent for the first three months. Then he started doing a morning and evening scream when he wants covered and uncovered. He may make a few few noises but only screams a couple times a week.

New development ...the past three mornings this has been going on.

Here he starts off with his normal call he uses for morning and night.

Is this what they call display screaming? I feel like I should know cockatoo behavior by now but he did nothing for so long. I have a feeling Jasper had forgotten how to act like a cockatoo. Thankfully it seems to be coming back now. Oh and his wing clip didn't last long and he has improved on his landings. We've only had one bird/wall collision lately.

Re: Display screaming?

I'm no expert, but that just sounds like fairly normal Too' calling to me. I wouldn't even really put that in to the category of screaming yet, to much pause between call's, and not consistent enough. With display screaming you usually have the repetition of a single fairly harsh call back to back to back to back, and it usually tends to go on for at least several minutes. He is absolutely adorable by the way!

Re: Display screaming?

You've done very well with Jasper! Beautiful Goffins, his mannerisms and calls are absolutely typical!!

Re: Display screaming?

I'm honestly not sure how good I'm doing with him. When he hisses at me every night I sometimes wonder if someone else would have been better for him. However, it does make me appreciate every little step he makes.

Having been a breeder for 15 years results in some ingrained behaviors and general distrust of people. I would be very surprised if he doesn't eventually come around and trust to some degree.

Neither of my two wild-caught Goffins will willingly perch, though I can pick the female up by her feet and place her on a finger. And cuddle! The male is more standoffish but lacks fear and will let me stroke his head.

Re: Display screaming?

God...that is QUIET to what Jonesy,my Goffin did! For the first month or two,he didn't make a peep...then he started with a few words/phrases. His cute on was when he'd say " I'm a good cockatoo man" I laughed at that one.

One afternoon,my son and I were watching a ball game on tv. Jonesy said something,James and I looked at each other,I said to James, "did he say what I THINK he said??" My som laughed and said "Ya Dad...I think so"
Jonesy came out with "you're ******* me! you're ******* me!"
as time passed,it became clearer and clearer, and the louder amyone talked, the louder he said it! And it was most pronounced when I was on the phone lol.

My friend DJ,who is owned by Pookie the M2,was Jonesy's original parront, who I adopted him from when Smokey passed away. DJ finally came clean and said Jonesy learned it from him, when DJ would yell at his GF for not paying some bill or something.

From my little experience with Jonesy,it sounds like your little guy is typical of a 'too/goffin...I'd say SCOTT is probably the best to answer this, being owned by a flock of Goffin's God bless you Scott! lol
