Well, my wife and I are going to go meet a pair of umbrella cockatoos tomorrow. We are very excited. We currently have a Mealy Amazon that gets along with other birds, but we will keep them safely separate for as long as it takes. Soooo excited.

They are approximately 4 years old, and a bonded pair. They look to be very healthy, but we will find out tomorrow.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Congratulations, they sound like a terrific couple! Always a good idea to quarantine new birds from your Mealy to prevent potential disease transfer. Parrots can be carriers even as they appear in perfect health. A generally accepted period is 30 days.

Anxious to hear how the homecoming goes!!

Got them home and Boozie started getting excited. The dogs got excited. Then all hell broke loose. Boozie was absolutely drowned out by the cockatoos screaming. Locked the dogs away, put Boozie in her outside jungle gym and allowed the Toos to scream themselves out. Now everyone is calm. For now.

Congrats on your new pair of umbrella cockatoos. May I suggest you invest in *quality* earplugs for the whole family? You'll be needing and using them often (I have a feeling:D) Hope you'll share some pics soon of the cockatoos, once they've settled in a bit.

I'm with April here...lots of pictures when your new family members settle in.

I didn't notice,are they a bonded pair? Male/Female? Any names yet?

The only experience I had with a 'too was with Jonesy..a.k.a. The Cockatoo Man ( that's what he called himself) I called him a "little beady-eye'd monster"
He was a late 20-something goffin. He was a sweetheart at first, then turned postal..dr jeckyl mr hyde type of guy..gave me loveys one moment then drew blood the next. Then he thought SCREAMING from sun-up to long after bed time was a cool thing to do..oh, and did I mention his SWEARING at me?? "You're fn me! You're fn me!" But he usually only said that, when I was on the PHONE with someone lol.

However, when he was good...he was GOOD! mostly friendly with just about anyone. He loved attention and skritches..he and Amy became good pals, and he was very comical.

Unfortunately, for my sanity, and Amys ( Jonesy screamed so long and so hard,Amy would tell him SHUT UP!) I feared that Amy would pick up on his screaming, I had to re-home him.

He is now living with a family that owns the local Muki Mart around the corner. He adores their daughter ( she is the only one who handles him,mom and dad are nervous, don't want to get chomped on) He is bi-lingual now, speaks Pakistani, plays fetch with Dad,calls Mom "MeMe" ( Paki for Mom lol)
His name is now "BOB" lmao

Sorry I stole your thread! :p I hope all goes well..sounds like Boozie is excited about new future playmates!

You made my wife run to the bathroom to avoid wetting herself because she was laughing so hard.

It is 12:30 am, the Astros won, and the "female" is screaming. Wonderful.

Sheesh. Bet you were online ordering those earplugs/noise cancelling headphones:D Hope it's just an adjusting to their new home thing. Even my dads cockatoo who LOVES screeching until any human in earshot (so anyone in a several mile radius of his house:p) is bleeding from the ears and ready for institutionalization, shuts up after the nighttime covers go on. Have you covered the cockatoos so they know it's time for sleeping? Really hope things quiet down for you in the coming days.

I covered the cage, but one of them pulled the sheet through the bars until it fell off. I wrestled it back and covered again (the cage is large, so 2 king sized sheets), and she pulled it through again. She screamed until about 3 AM, and I decided to comfort her, thinking it might be that she's afraid. So I stood by the cage stroking her neck until she finally fell asleep. That went on from about 2 to 3 am. And she was up at the crack of dawn again, which I don't mind as much, because I am up too.
