Many of you have met Loki by now. This will be his official thread.

Quick back story: Loki is a 9 year old male goffins cockatoo. He was adopted from someone on craigslist. He has been kept in a small cage and was on an all seed diet. He was with that owner for only 26 days. His history is questionable.

I picked up Loki's new cage today. It will have to be taken apart to get inside and then be put back together. I think he will notice a difference in space.

I think he will notice a difference in space.

Maybe just a small difference:p I wonder how he'll adjust to being put in the large a cage right away? Heck, you could even just put his current cage in the new cage, open the door and let him explore at will!

Thanks! I'll probably just put his current cage inside the new one and open it, but put all his food in the larger cage bowls.

What an upgrade on cages! I'm happy that Loki will have his own thread too:)

Goofy (YNA), Oscar (Goffin 'too). Foster bird Betty (RLA). RIP Cookie, 1991-2016 ('tiel), Leo (Sengal), Charlotte (scarlet macaw). Grand-birds: Liam (budgie), Donovan (lovebird), RIP Angelo (budgie)
Small upgrade there. Once he stops freaking out about the newness of it, he's sure to love it.

One thing, if you haven't thought about it already: Cockatoos are really dusty, and that can really affect the sinuses of macaws. You may want to look into an air purifier for Kalani. We have to have one for Charlotte and Goofy (and now Betty) since we brought in Oscar, as his dust makes them sneeze and wheeze a lot.

Thanks! Now to find the motivation to tear it down and bring it in!

Thank you, definitely a good tip. That is the plan for when they'll be sharing a room together.

Loki seems to like my girlfriend a little better right now. He seems more excited by her voice and a little more easy around her. He let her give him some scritches through the bars today!

Thanks guys!
I'm hoping he will like spending more time out than in. Kalani is usually out in the living room on his stand anytime I'm home. Once Loki is in the big cage in the bird room, I'll have to find a plan of attack to while he's adjusting.

Awesome new digs for Loki..a mansion compared to a studio apartment lol..hope he doesn't get lost in it.

waiting to hear more on how he settles in. Jonesy took a couple weeks before he started to show his TRUE colors ..I wish you the best!

Oh my goodness. I didn't realise what I was looking at at first. I was admiring the new cage when I read the comment and realised there must be something I should be comparing it to. When I realised it was the horrible white, rusty thing next it my stomach actually turned. Poor Loki!! He'll love it. Putting the old cage inside is a great idea. He'll have his safe place if it gets too much. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't head to the top corner of his new one and stay there surveying his mansion though!

Thanks. I know we still have a lot to learn about each other, but I am equipped to handle whatever he throws at me. I knew there were certainly some risks since I knew so little about him.

The small cage is actually in good shape, surprisingly. My picture quality is horrible. It is just not at all suitable for a cockatoo. Without a doubt, he has not been given a fair shot in life.

Success! Had to take it apart into about ten pieces or so. Took about two hours to take apart and put back together. Not your average bird cages..
