Bare spot

Rocky tends to have a bare spot over his keel bone. Sometimes his feathers are fluffy enough to cover it anyway, but sometimes they're not, if he's molting for example. Hubby is convinced he plucks there, but it doesn't look like plucking. It looks like no feathers grow there. Anybody with a U2 who can tell me if that's normal? He's fine in all other ways. Eats good, poops normally, screams if we don't pay enough attention to him ... (LOL)

It's normal! Poppy has one about the size of a half dollar, the skin is perfectly smooth, it doesn't look like feathers have ever grown there, just like the bald patch on top of her head, you can see it only when her umbrella is up. The only time I can see the patch on her breast is when she's wet.

Different species of cockatoo, but I've observed this with some Goffins.

That's it exactly, Allee. Smooth skin that doesn't seem to have ever had feathers. When Rocky's been preening, or during molts when he's messy, it stands out. In between, the feathers around it usually hide it. Hubby keeps thinking he's plucking. I wanted backup to my opinion that it's just a Too Thing. I had to show him videos of other U2s to prove to him that the bare head under the crest is normal, too. LOL
