Umbrella: Flower's thread

Well,
The third and final bird came sooner than expected. She actually came a week after Loki. The family had a very hard time giving her up and you could tell they really did care for her. Out of respect, I wanted to wait to share Flower with everyone.

Flower is 13 years old. She came from a couple who had Flower for about a year. They got Flower from a rescue. Prior to the rescue, she was with a couple who both died within a month of each other.

I found Flower's owners right here on the forum. I had said that I would ultimately own three birds, and things just fell into place much sooner than anticipated.

Flower has had some plucking. She plucked herself when she transitioned to the rescue. When the couple took her home, she continued to pluck for a little while. Once she settled, the plucking stopped. Then, after six months they moved. While Flower adjusted she plucked again, which stopped after a couple months (so about 4 months ago?)

I like these pictures of her:

Here is a picture to give you a better idea of her feather condition. Depending on how she is positioned, you can sometimes see a couple more bare spots. I am hoping with good diet and love, we will minimize plucking during this transition.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Flower is a beauty, she is lucky to have landed in your care! My guess is the pattern of plucking will repeat and she'll adjust very well.

Will be interesting to see if Flower and Loki become buddies. My Goffins loved Big Bird, my late Moluccan. He was especially mellow and loved to preen and be preened by the little guys.

I'm eager to find out, as well! Per the couple, when Flower went to the rescue she came in with two other cockatoos. They aren't sure if they were ever housed together or if they got along. I do know Loki has been around other birds and seems to be gentle natured in general.

I thought I saw a sudden addition to your banner picture in other threads, couldn't tell if I finally went off the deep end or not :D

Flower looks like a big poofy Marshmallow!

Let's be fair for a Too who's had all this happen to her she's in remarkable shape! I'm sure she'll only get better with time.

How's Kalani with the sudden Aussie invasion?

Congratulations on your beautiful new flock member! Flower could not have found a better home to go to, and I love it that you found each other through the forum. Thank you for all you do, Don. I know Flower's previous parronts must be so happy to know she is in such a wonderful home.

Flower is in quarantine for another week or so. Kalani does not seem to care less about Loki thus far. He still wants my attention, but doesn't seem jealous.

Apparently it's ME that has gone off the deep end! She seems pretty well adjusted socially... BUT we are in the honeymoon phase right now.

Kalani doesn't seem interested in anyone but me when I am around.

Thank you Terry! I am confident that these birds will have a loving home for the next 50+ years. As far as I know I am young and healthy!

Thank you. I think she's quite the looker too. Wasn't sure that I'd ever wind up with a large cockatoo, but I do know I can handle the noise, pain, and time that comes with such a mighty task.

Now, Flower, you are a lucky 'Too. These guys are going to give you the best medicine there is - Love and Time. So wwe all want you to give your best to Don and his G/F, and show them and all of us how great having a cockatoo in the flock really is. You dont need to pull on your feathers from worry and soon you guys will be one big happy family. You will be the big Sister to the other birdies, so we are counting on you! Congratulations!

She's really been great. If she winds up being half as well behaved as she's been so far, I'll be happy. I know we are in the honeymoon phase, but thus far she hasn't tried to bite anyone, she says "Look at Flower!" for attention rather than screaming, and she has been fairly gentle on her feathers. Time will tell.

Flower has great rhythm!!

Oops.. Scott, you seem to have forgotten to mention how great my rhythm is...
