Sammy's New Home.

spent the last few months trying to find a good home for Sam with a move into an Apt coming in April where i know a screaming U2 will not make it and one move for now is enough for me.lol
well i found some folks who live in the farmlands huge outdoor Aviary another U2 along with just about every other kind of parrot you can think of. huge indoor area the pics i have seen are very impressive after speaking with the folks on the phone for quite a while. i got a good feeling of love for the birds from our conversation, so next Saturday he will be moving. Ricky the sunny will also be joining him.
please don't take this post wrong as i have a ton of love for these birds
and the wife and i will greatly miss both. but sometimes in life reality jumps up and bite's you in the butt and you have to adjust in life,believe me this is not our first nor will be the last.

Rehoming sucks..hurts..been there done that with the beady-eye'd monster Jonesy. Two years later and I'm still missing that little so-and-so.
I'm kinda lucky though. The family who adopted him own a convenience store right down the road and I get updates every time I go there.

I'm so sorry that you have had to find a new home for Sammy and your Sun, but thankful you have found somewhere you are comfortable with. It is so hard when life throws us curve balls, wishing you only the best.

well got Sammy and Ricky off to their new home this past weekend.
all good Sammy took right to his new people and was all over them.
kinda funny cause they have a female named Sammy too.
was glad to get both these fella's off to some good folks.
kinda stunned though the house is almost to quiet.

I hope Sammy and Ricky have great adjustments. Are you going to keep in touch, or will it be better to make a clean break, Dave?

I was going to say as well - I can't remember if you described the circumstances under which you need to move - but do you think there'd be an opportunity in the future for you to have them back?
(eg you find a chance to move to a big, spacious, bird friendly place)

I guess that's a larger question - if a bird spends considerable time away from one owner is it really a reuniting if they come back, or is it just like being rehomed again with a stranger?

well i spoke with the folks who now have Sammy and they say he fit right into their flock and cage's are left open all the time. they have a farm and a heated barn the birds spend time in the winter flying and playing they also have an outdoor aviary for the summers and have a huge basement turned into an indoor aviary. told me Sammy flew so much the first time out in the barn they where worried he would over do it. im so happy i was able to find a home like this for him. they have another U2 20yrs old female also named Sammy,lol told me she has no interest in him what so ever at this point,sounds like he will have a good life.
