We have flight!

Lily's human has been working with her to try to get her flighted again, so I continued the efforts. She'd flown short distances and done controlled falls already. Today she made it about 15 feet from the big play gym to the play top on her cage, and landed deliberately and gracefully. It's so beautiful to watch! Now if we could only convince the other birds to be brave enough to attempt flight farther than about 2 feet.

Very nice setup. Looks like your flock has plenty to keep them busy.
Just curious, do the plastic chains twist making it difficult for them to balance?

They're pulled tight enough so that they're wobbly, but manageable. But that's kind of the point. It gives them a bit of a challenge and keeps them busy.

That's a terrific array of chain from the ceiling! The perfect launch pad, perhaps the others will gain inspiration. Surprising Oscar doesn't fly much, as Goffins are generally superb aviators!

Well, remember Oscar was clipped when I got him, then within a few months got really sick as the years of a terrible diet finally caught up to him. His wings have grown out, and now that I'm really strict with his diet, his liver function is almost normal and he feels better, so he's just starting to try to fly. He'll jump about 2 feet or so from one object to another, or to the floor, but he's still pretty timid for anything more than that. Every once in a while he'll do a controlled glide from on top of a door or something of similar height, but not often.

Now that he's feeling better perhaps the confidence will resume. Assuming he ever flew much, not all parrots are given the opportunity. Goffins are capable of turning on a dime and coming very close to a hover for a few seconds.

I like that a lot. Do they EVER poop while on the chains? That would be my only reservation in trying that myself... Even then... I think I'll try it!

What a cool setup! I've got hooks (I think at one time used for hanging potted plants, before what must've been formerly a porch area was walled-in and extended outward to add livable interior space to the living room) up on my ceiling...hmm it gives me ideas. I don't think the SO would approve of hooks and ropes everywhere, LOL!
