Rocky has been very beaky and aggressive the last few days. He actually ran at my foot last night to attack it. The good news is, he isn't like this 24/7. He seems pretty okay during the day, but in the evening, he seems to turn into Mr. Hyde. We'll soon pass our third anniversary with him and he's never really done a full hormonal thing. He went to bed a little early last night and got up a little later this morning and we'll try that for a while and see if it helps. I told him he was being a jerk and he batted his eyes at me like, "Whaaaat? But I'm an ANGEL!"

Definitely a time of potential hormonal activity!

I prefer my marshmallow to my monster, I can tell you THAT. LOL He wasn't too bad last night, because he was obsessed with preening his pterodactyl feet.

The Rickeybird, 38-year-old Patagonian Conure
May I share my experience?

Ever since the Rickeybird hit sexual maturity at about 3-4 years of age, I've had to manage his hormones! If kept on too steady a long day, and too much light, he stayed "in the mood" (aggressive, even louder than usual, pleasuring himself on my neck, attacking my husband) year round. If I keep him on a natural light schedule... up with dawn, down with dusk, year around... THEN he's only a little monster rooster from July to September). He has his own room, so I can do that easily.

Marshmallow or monster. I love that!

I know nothing of hormones yet. What happens in March to them coz Xander is acting different too. He is way more excited than usual and acting slightly different and play biting a lot which is very unlike him. He isn't 1 yet though so would he go through anything hormonal yet? He is really making me laugh a lot though with his behaviour of late. I now own a dog with wings x

Last night he wasn't beaky or aggressive toward me, but he chewed savagely upon the arm of the sofa. LOL We buy sofas at thrift stores for peanuts for that reason, and when one gets too ragged, we pitch it and go buy another thrift store sofa. That way we don't have to stress about Rocky chewing on it or our dog sleeping on it or if we spill something.

I have one Umbrella, a Bare Eye, and two budgies.
Yes Fred is acting bratty with his screaming temper tantrums. Will be glad when it passes.

Hi guys. Could anyone give me some more advice on hormonal behaviour please. Xander has turned into a monster. He has gone from the sweetest, quietest little Quaker and turned into the complete opposite. He wakes up early and just screams and growls at everything so loudly. He is attacking his toys more violently. Seems everything is bothering him. Its got to be hormonal hasn't it? but he is only 11 months old. All the above is going on throughout the day too and then at certain times he turns back into sweet Xander and is all lovely again. I'm trying to help him out all I can to no avail. I do over worry some when it comes to him I know, I'm still relatively new to Parrot ownership I could just use some experienced advice. Is there anything I can do for him or do I just have to wait this out?

Just for laughs I took his bowls out to clean and refill this morning and came back to his cage to put them in and he isn't there. I'm completely stumped lol. Look up and he is on his boing at the top. He opened one of the feeder doors and let himself out lol x

main things I suggest carl is to lower his high energy foods like fruits, try to send him to bed a bit earlier and get him moving around more during the day so he's a bit more tuckered out

He always sleeps 8pm-7am every day. Its confusing. He isn't showing any lets say horny behaviour or aggressiveness other than snapping at his toys so I'm stumped. If it was sleep related then it wouldnt last so long would it?

hormones normally last for about a month but can go on longer though being only 11 months does throw it off. But strangely Sunnyclover's Finley has gone into a strange mood recently too. Most likely circumstantial but still noteworthy

I wonder if its something to do with all the birds outside. There are so many this time of year and we can hear them loud and clear x

A female Rosey Bourke, my oldest, then a Pineapple GCC female, and my newest parrot is a Greater Sulphur Crested Cockatoo
My Greater Sulphur Crested Cockatoo is very hormonal right now. He does lunge at anyone except me when they get near his cage. He tries to "have his way" with my hand, and of course I move my hand away. He does a lot of screaming when I'm out of his sight. He has a daytime cage in the living room, which is HUGE, and then a night time cage in a spare bedroom that he sleeps in. I think that's the way to go....So you don't lose your sanity. They are like naughty little toddlers right now. We bird parents need some quiet time. Then they look at you with those cute, expressive black eyes......and I just melt.....I love him so much....
