Btw, I bring blue corns and bitter lettuce. Do you have this kind of lettuce in the states? It taste a little bitter, but Chinese love it so much. blue loves bitter lettuce.

North America is a closed market. Very limited Import of Parrots is allowed, which has increased the costs.

Interesting list of available Parrots.

Thanks for the information.

Very interesting price comparison chart. You're right, most parrots are quite a bit less expensive. Kinda shocked how expensive amazons are compared to other parrots of a similar size (and larger!). Generally, they cost between $1000-$1800 USD for the most common species (BFA's are amongst the most common/popular amazons here), on par with similarly sized parrots such as African grays, small cockatoos, eclectus etc.... I'm no math genius, but if I calculated correctly, my blue fronted amazon could have cost up to $4400USD in China?! Not sure which subspecies is preferred over there, but in the US a. xanthopteryx are usually the pricier of the 2 blue front subspecies (in Europe they seem to prefer the a. aestiva more) and they only price in at about $1500 on average for a hand reared baby. Orange wings only cost around $1000, as they are a smaller amazon species. I can only assume that would be because they are new world parrots and not as many ever made their way to China.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Thanks for a look into your local parrot market! Prices are very interesting, particularly for the rare Hyacinth!

The dark leafy lettuce looks somewhat familiar, perhaps it is known by a different name in the states?
