Hello!
Well so Iā€™ve been today at the bird store and I was looking at the birds outside and thereā€™s one I fell in love with, a sulfur crested.

I was petting her and she suddenly did like if she was gonna jump at me and attack me. I got scared so I ā€œjumped backā€ and then she started LAUGHING!! She did it just to scare me and laugh, she then wanted me to pet her again lol.

Umbrella Cockatoo- 15? years old..I think?
Yup, sounds about right lol.
Don't impulse-buy one of these. Cockatoos are the most-rehomed of all birds. They are probably the hardest bird to own.

Amen to that! I love Rocky Too desperately, but he is HARD to live with and this morning I have a fresh and ugly bite on my hand from him, and I hadn't even done anything that I can pinpoint to deserve it. After he bit me, he screamed for half an hour without stopping. You really, really have to know what you're getting into before taking in a 'too, and you can't just rehome them, either. For one thing, they become very attached to their humans and it would break their heart to be sent away, and for another, nobody in their right mind will take one, or they take a 'too for the wrong reasons and will rehome the poor thing again in no time.

For years I thought I wanted a cockatoo, had to have a Moluccan or a Major Mitchell, Black Palm is still on my list too, but seeing and hearing all the stories about their wild behavior, unpredictability, up and down in emotions, it takes a special individual to take on a cockatoo of any kind!

I'm fine with admiring from afar :)

Cockatoos are rough... we have a goffin cockatoo in isolation rn bc someone recently surrendered her, very sweet. Steps up for me and my manager. We had a customer that wanted to see her so my co-worker offered to go get her, asks my manager if she's friendly, manager says she's very sweet. Co-worker stick her hand infront of the goffin to have her step up, goffin takes a chunk out of her hand. Had to go get stitches.

We have another cockatoo, an umbrella, that we are currently boarding. Sweet as ever, has never made any attempt to bite even though she's a tad skittish.

We also have a mollucan. Can barely clean his cage because he chases me around. Sometimes goes to the ground and attacks feet before bouncing back to his cage. Only let's my co-workers mom hold him but will take pets from anyone.

We also have a bare eyed which... I don't know. He hates some people with a passion and likes others. Doesn't like being touched though, will step up on occasions.

And finally, a sulphur crested. Hates woman. Always horny. Launches himself at any white birds in attempts to mate. Gotta be careful with him.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Ah, the siren call of MBS! (Multiple Bird Syndrome)

Seems the sulfur crested was playing with you. I love cockatoos more than any other species but acknowledge they can be problematic. They are by nature sweet and inquisitive creatures, a shame so many are passed around and become terribly neurotic.

To paraphrase Sailboat, it is never a fault of the cockatoo - rather the humans who do not understand their nature.

I didnā€™t say in any moment that Iā€™m gonna get her!!!!!!
I just wanted to tell you all the story cause she really scared me, and it made me crazy how she laughed after that.

I know they are really hard thatā€™s why I will not get one :)
