RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Gabby was about 10 years old when this flight sequence was taken in July, 2005. Rediscovered perusing some old storage.

Just turned a 90 degree corner from the right. Beak and feet are reddish, guessing he had been eating pomegranate seeds. Did not bother to retract his landing gear, lol!

Your Gabby is absolutely gorgeous, Scott! With the red staining on his beak and with his hat up, he looks just like Rosetta. Gotta love a white cocky! :)

That is one rare photo there Scott. That is the start of withdraw of the wing. The goal of this part of the stroke is to not reduce the size of the air bubble (high pressure) created and to get the wings back up to the top of the stroke while also limiting any disruption of the 'low pressure area' above the body created by the prior stroke.

United Heavy! Love it!!! :D

Wonderful photos Scott! We don't see a lot of flight photos on here, perhaps this thread could spinoff into a POTM contest?

Are your goffins super skilled fliers? My dad's cockatoo is a very agile flier and very maneuverable in the air. Like a fighter jet compared to my moms amazon, who's flight is more akin to a large cargo plane.

LOL, Martina... 747 Heavy vs Exocet!!

Interesting Avian Aerodynamics, never knew this, Steven!!

Great idea for contest, April. Yes, all 5 goffins are superb fliers. The parents are a bit more graceful, having been wild, but the 3 offspring are highly maneuverable. Never have to worry about flying into walls, mirrors, etc.

These pics were imaged by a fairly mundane Canon Powershot G2 "point and shoot" camera. Circa turn of the century technology!

The sequence was not a contiguous flight but rather three separate efforts in the span of about 15 minutes. His bird-room was well to the right of the first image, and I'd be at the end of an L-shaped hall. Gabby was in a flying mood, and the reward was a bit of almond.

Amazing photos, gorgeous bird!! Just stunning. I like the idea of a flight themed POTM contest. My birds are too quick for me to take good quality flight photos. These are the best I can get:

The AN Electra was sold out and is on back order. Hopefully it will arrive and take its place with my other Electras!
