My husband had to work nights for a while, and I got Rocky used to going to bed earlier. He needed more sleep, and I needed a break. LOL Well, he's back to insisting on staying up until we go to bed and we have a nightly battle with me trying to get him to go to bed at 9:30 or 10 at the latest (we usually retire around 10:30). Last night, I put him to bed and he squawked and screamed a while, then resorted to, I'm not kidding, crying! Like a human child! We don't have kids and and I don't know where he learned it (we're his fifth home), but I've never heard that sound from him before. It was hard to keep from laughing as I don't want to encourage him to complain about bedtime, but honestly. CRYING. What a drama queen.

LOL! Try to establish a weird ritual. I find that shutting off lights works really well for mine---she hates it, but will climb into her cage (all the while crying like a puppy or whimpering child). I would suggest playing the same song or something each night, then dimming lights (or even making it totally dark---so long as she can see well enough to go into her cage) and see what happens. Try to use the same wording too--- for me, it's "are you sleepy? Goodnight, love you, see you in the morning" (cover cage) and move on (granted, mine goes in on her own if I wait her out, which is what I do).

How funny!

Okay, I guess he dredged it up from a previous home... UNLESS your hubby cries like a baby when you put HIM to bed!

His cage is in the living room, so we can't turn off all the lights. I do turn most of them off, and I often sing to him and rock him before putting him to bed. He's so spoiled.

Just turn them off until he is covered if you can (That's what I do anyway)---and if possible, use lamps in the rest of the room so that you can darken the area near the cage. (?)

I wrote new words to Rockabye Baby and I also sing Elton John's Rocket Man to him when I rock him to sleep (changing "I'm not the man they think I am at home" to "I'm not the BIRD ... ") He really likes having his name in songs. We even wrote a song just for him that's nothing but his name over and over again. Last night, he actually went to bed without much fuss, but I waited until almost 10 to tuck him in and I think he was extra sleepy.

Really? Blood, Sweat, and Tears?

She picked it- not me lol! I have a billion records so I just played a bunch and waited for reactions. She LOVES that song--I have no idea why, but she immediately freaks out when she hears it. Oh yes, and "Young Girl" by Gary Puckett and the Union Gap (which is a really weird song in general...)

I have carefully trained Rocky to love the Bee Gees, and he does, but one day I was watching a dopey video on Facebook and the music was some kind of weird techno pop stuff and he went ape. He danced! He sang! He displayed ALL his feathers! What the ... ? NO, Rocky. We do not listen to techno pop in this household! And I agree, I love Young Girl (and Gary Puckett and the Union Gap in general) but it is, um, disturbing. LOL

Well, for the Rb, the popular bedtime listening is J-Lo. He does a hilarious version of her "Booty" (which I will spare you). Paula Abdul was his first singer-love in the 90s.
Honestly, he really seems to like curvy brunettes on the music channel I leave on for him. Oh, and he is DIGGIN' any and all Ariana Grande commercials!

Rocky generally prefers his music live. We're musicians and sometimes have band practice at our house.

Oh yes---Noodles loves sitting on a shoulder while someone sings and plays piano---it's like a Broadway show just for her if more than a few of my family members are around lol. Her most recent favorite song (which I only just discovered over Christmas is the Time Warp--from Rocky Horror Picture Show...and of course, what would that song be without the dance LOL).

What instruments do you guys play?

Yet again, I find myself in love with your bird LOL- he is like the funniest personality of all time (human or bird).

LOL! Good call in the Bee Gees- I look forward to the video.

Noodles gets super into the part that says "You're just a baby in disguise" LOL---I think it's because she calls herself baby all of the time--and me sometimes. "Hi baby, come here" is a favorite quote of hers.

Ha! Not that I haven't occasionally been tempted when he was having a screaming fit and wouldn't stop. However, I was referring to cuddling and swaying back and forth as one does with a fussy baby. I don't even have kids, but apparently the cuddling and swaying thing is in the DNA anyway. None of my other birds, nor my dog, would be into this sort of thing at all. My dog would think I was up to something unpleasant and the other birds would just chomp me.

I think I've exploded from the sheer cuteness of that:silly:

When she's been put away too early, Mochi makes these really pathetic, high-pitched whimpering noises. It's heart-rending...and usually works to get her taken out again. No idea where she learned it!

In terms of music, my SO enjoys Pink, Queen, Rock....it's a very, very quiet house otherwise so the fids are NOT fans of loud music. We're working on get them to tolerate it...lol
