New food

Rocky won't eat orange pellets so the wild birds get them when his dish is down to orange (and he always lets me know when he's down to just orange, LOL). AT the pet store on Saturday, I decided to buy him a bag of plain pellets, fully expecting him to reject them instantly, as his Quaker siblings did when I tried that on them (they hate yellow). I put them in his dish and he scurried right over to have a look, picked one up and ate it, went back for a second, and has been eating them ever since. No problem at all. I was amazed. But then, when he came to live with us, he'd been given an appalling seed mix that I wouldn't have given to wild birds, much less a parrot, and when I gave him pellets the first time, he dove in and ate heartily. Poor baby was hungry and underweight. So he has learned to trust what I give him in his dish. The wild birds will have to get by on the food I buy for them; no more orange pellet treats.

What kind were they? I am intrigued!

The colored ones are Zupreem fruity blend, which is what the Quakers eat, only of course I bought a bigger size for Rocky. My cockatiel eats the Quakers' pellets but won't eat them if they're in his own dish. He "steals" from the Quakers' dishes. LOL Even my budgie likes them. Rocky's been eating his size of them for almost four years now, but never has eaten orange ones. The plain pellets are Zupreem, too, but they're all a boring tan color. Rocky doesn't seem to care and had quite a hearty breakfast of them this morning. He was in the habit of dunking his colored pellets in his water dish and he didn't do that with the plain ones.

" I decided to buy him a bag of plain pellets" <---so these were Zupreem fruit blend? My "too" loves to pick apart the grape clusters and play with the red ones...Don't think she gets a lot out of her pellets, but I try to be patient lol. Orange ones were never a hit here either...aside from being orange, they have a boring shape haha.

That is terrific! When I fed my flock Zupreem Fruit Blend, various birds had favorite colors. When I tried "Natural" they tossed and hated the change!

mine has colour days, you can tell by her poop :30:

she eats the food I get from her breeder (also fruit pellets in different colours) and Zupreem - some days she'll eat aaaallll the green ones, the next day is red and so on... she hated the yellow ones when they were banana.shaped, but now they are round and she eats them normal... now I ordered natural pellets for her so the fruit/veggie/nut ones will only stay in small amounts or as treats

The Quakers are on a yellow kick right now, or Jade is, anyway. Jade eats all her yellow ones and then goes into Clyde's cage and eats all of HIS yellow ones. LOL Next thing you know, she won't touch yellow to save her life. But Rocky has steadfastly refused to eat orange from Day One. Sometimes he won't eat green ones, either. This morning, he ate a hearty breakfast of plain tan pellets, but he threw a lot of them onto the floor, too. I don't know what that was all about. They all look just the same, but he rejected quite a few for some reason.

Rocky has now rejected the plain pellets. Threw them all over the floor. I caved and bought another bag of the fruity colored ones and gave the plain ones to the outdoor birds/squirrels/possum/whatever gets to it first. Rocky gets his way. Again. LOL

He switched from a horrid seed mix to pellets with no fuss whatever, so I guess I thought he was easy. Ha. Silly me. What he really wants is MY food. I hardly got any supper at all last night because it was a rice dish and Rocky loves rice.
