Hi everyone and a Happy New Year to you all!!
So....the 3rd Jan finally arrived and I got to bring Charlie home!!! As you might remember from my previous posts, he was staying at the local birdie/pet store with the kind old bird-man, and I was visiting him there every day. When I finally got him home- I swear he was actually RELIEVED to be leaving with me!! The last few times I visited, he would throw such a tantrum when I had to leave
Now I know the advice...I have taken it and given it. Let the bird settle in. Dont let him out his cage for a while etc. But Charlie got home and acted like he had been there all his life. I opened his cage and he got right out, climbed up to his playstand and carried on preening, talking and playing with his toys!! I sat quietly in a corner watching him. Next thing- he called me "waar's papa?" Afrikaans for "where's daddy" -(his previous owner was a man,) and proceeded to put his foot out for step up. So I obliged- and that was it! Settled right in. Called me this morning again and came into my bedroom to sit on a chair while i dressed, talking to everyone as we went about our business. He is eating so well and took his vits from a teaspoon this morning.
The only hiccup was bedtime! To get him back in his cage was another story but we had a small battle of the wills which I am pleased to report- I won HHEEHEE!
I just cant believe how easily he accepted us, I know a lot has to do with the hours spent sitting on the pet store floor just getting to know him. But more than that I just reckon I landed myself with a heart of gold boy with more personality than I could ever have imagined.
