We are visiting my parents:
My dad had Noodles with him in the kitchen and I have told him 7 million times to never use the oven while she is in the kitchen on him/ in the kitchen in general.

So, of course, he opens the oven with her on his shoulder ( no injury) BUT, then I walk in and smell burning rubber---I immediatly took her out of the room and placed her as far away as I could (and put up an off-the-hinges door that I used to block off the kitchen at night due to noise etc)---
I was told that it was "just the oven smell" and I was told "DON'T OPEN IT" whenever I tried. I insisted that this was NOT just an oven smell.

After about 5-10 minutes of yelling and asking for the oven to be opened, my dad finally gave in and there was an effing rubber JAR OPENER on the coils!
OMFG---- Then, my dad threw it to get rid of it and accidentally hit me with the molten plastic. I am freaking out.

We have the windows open and we are blowing the air out with fans (and in where noodles is, but out throughout the rest of the house) but WTF.... I know it was an accident, but I am so scared and pissed.

I took her outside in her travel cage, but she got super scared because she isn't used to being outside at my parents' and so I brought her back in. She is in a small solarium-type room (probably 8x 10 ft) with a box fan blowing in---she is eating things and acting normal but I am so worried....The rest of the house has fans blowing out/doors open and this "wing" is blocked off (but it is semi-near the kitchen---it is kitchen, large dining room + entryway and then sun-room/solarium- but I did block off the kitchen and I also shut the door that leads to the hall and connects the living room to the rest of the home)...There are 2 doors to the living/dining area (the one that I covered with an old off-the -hinges door and another one that still has a door on it)

The oven if off now and I have no idea what to do. I got the sh*t off of my hands with olive oil, but I don't want to use oil in the oven and burn that....Oh, AND my dad tried to wipe it off with a paper-towel and that caught fire.

I am losing my mind and I am angry/scared for Noodles. AGAIN, she is acting fine, but I don't know how long until I know she is "out of the woods"!

Any thoughts on safely cleaning this?!?!

Hi! Dang the parents!!! Mine never listen either!!! I had a bit of plastic drop and start melting on a burner, I flicked it off, grabbed my parrots and had them outside in less than 30 seconds!!!! My GCC was woozy and fainting OMG! But they all recovered completely. This was last year or the year before. I think you are ok, if you didn't see any distress because I think it's immediately if you are going to have a problem..
I only had to take three steps to my bird and three steps to be outside, I know if it would have been any longer she would not have made it.....
So glad your bird is ok, yikes about you burn!

Hi Noodles123...saw your posting immediately but my internet is cutting out and sluggish....hope Noodles is ok? Sounds as if you implemented emergency measures in time. How is everything now?

She's probably fine. You acted quickly to remove her from the odor. We once had to have our water heater worked on and I don't know anything about this stuff but they used some smelly adhesive and SPILLED it, and the birds live in the room where the water heater is. I flipped OUT, we opened all the doors and windows, it was the middle of winter (!!!!) and put fans everywhere and they/ were all perfectly fine but I gave those guys a lecture they probably still remember. LOL

She appears to be okay, but it was TERRIFYING and she did sneeze 4 times after. She hasn't sneezed since and she is her sassy self, but it was very disturbing!!! Thankfully, we have a ton of fans here and a house with lots of doors and windows.
I definitely could have gone my whole life without that experience.

On the upside, apparently the "chicken was perfect" (after having sat out mid-way through cooking--in order for me to clean the oven coil w/ vinegar, water, detergent and a bit of veg oil---followed by more Dawn/water etc).

What a day! Thank you for your support--bad old jar opener...ugh...My new shirt is also ruined, as it is covered in melted rubber.
My hands are burned but they aren't that bad and at least they don't smell like they did....

None. My wife has one too many. Kidding!
Geez, glad that ended well. I guess it's a good reminder for all of us about what awaits just beyond the best of plans.

This post looks just like dialog straight from the movie “meet the parents” except Jinx is “Noodles” your quick response probably saved her life.... Bravo.... and I can see your heightened concern, hopefully everything calms down now. The excitement level obviously peaked as this was going on Noodles. Glad you and Noodles are doing better, but also remember everyone else isn’t as well up to speed on our pets needs or concerns as we are. Hopefully everything returns to normal, and thankfully you have plenty of fans. The shirt by the way can be replaced, Noodles cannot be..... hope your evening gets better.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
What a great save, your instincts likely saved Noodles. I'm sure she will be fine, as fumes are fast-acting.

She's still alive. Thank God!!!
I know fumes are fast-acting, but some part of me deep-down was worried she might have issues this morning lol.
None aside from her usual "issues" lol.
