As many know I rescue birds and I've done it in ways that aren't exactly smiled upon. I was appointed director of operations at a parrot sanctuary in Tampa some time ago. My sanctuary has many problems, , sad but true I am not giving permission to change these problems. That story is for another time . Anyways moving forward....
I'm rescuing a lesser sulfer crested too tomorrow. His name is tiger, had his beak ripped of and then glued back on not very well. I'd say he hasn't eaten well in a month. I KNoW NoTHING about this kinda bird...help please!!!
In other news sissy is doing great! Her vocabulary is getting better, she's potty trained to a point and next month marks 5 years since I took her from those awful people. Isolation has made her a Velcro bird and I am going crazy with this!!! Lol but being safe is better than being sick...stay safe everyone!

Ahhh glued on....I guess at least it wasn’t duct taped on....

Was it just the upper beak? If so you can give small pellets and they will scoop it up into the beak and use that tongue to get little pieces down at a time. We had an amazon missing the upper beak and he got the tiny budgie pellets. You can also go smoothie or finely chopped for fresh veggies for him to scoop up.

Yes Al, they can glue a beak section back on. When handled correctly by a CAV it will set correctly and allow the Parrot to fully use it until it is replaced by new growth.

Regardless of the Parrot, when they are not eating because of Beak damage, switch to hand feeding them using finely crushed pellets and/or baby parrot formula. Depending on how close to the root of the Beak the repair was completed will define how long hand feeding will need to occur. The closer to the root the longer hand feeding will need to occur.

Lol I wasn’t honestly thinking of a vet doing it correctly when she said glued on. Since the op does rescue sanctuary I imagined the owners themselves sticking it back on with glue because that is most definitely something I can see happening:11:

Wonderful update for your work and Sissy. I am certain you are going to accomplish great things at the rescue.

I have no personal experience with special-needs beaks. The bird must be receiving some nourishment, perhaps not sufficient to thrive. Do you have any veterinary resources to examine the beak and give advice? Meanwhile, ground and moist foods as already advised seem best.

Good luck with Tiger, keep us updated!

To update I guess it was the lower that was ripped off in a fight but not all the way off and a vet glued it, the same vet that helped my sparrow out when her beak fell off. And if everyone is wondering it’s going to be a lot of mash and blended food for now . My sparrow eats just fine . I have an awesome picture let me see if it will let me post it,I can’t get it upside right!! He’s such a wonderful little bird,it’s going to be a challenge...sissy doesn’t like new birds that are her size. I’m hoping one day the two will be friends

Gorgeous bird! I guess as long as the lower beak attachment is stable, he will adapt and thrive. You are amazing!!

Our CAV used a dental compound to fill a hole /weak area until one of our Amazon's beak grew past that area. It took near 14 months, but truly helped.

A General Note to Readers! The glue used for beak repair is a special non-toxic medical grade glue. Not something purchased at a Hardware Store, which are toxic to Parrots!!!

Damn.

I was hoping it was something like Krazy Glue or Loctite 242.

I wonder if they have prosthetic beaks.

I would guess lesser since they are so much more common from what I remember but I always had trouble telling the difference except for how much bigger the one is haha

That beak still looks like plenty to bite, climb and eat! I've seen way worse that did fine.

There are prosthetic beaks for when its needed. I don't think it was overly expensive either if i remember right. I think I remember someone using a 3D printer for one too but I might be remembering that wrong. All the random animal stuff starts blending together lol

2 umbrella Cockatoos One male named Cooper and female named Baby 1 Little Corella male named Frankie and have 5 Cockatiels three named Male named Pepper, Fiesco for the female and female named Wylie.
I dealt with both lesser are smaller then the greater sulfer crested. Greater are about the size of a umbrella cockatoo and weight in a little over 800 grams. My friend has a greater and she a little bigger then my umbrella cockatoo. They sit next to each other and a sulfer cockatoo is large. The lesser are about the size of a Little Corella Cockatoo and weigh in about 350 grams.

Is it just the missing piece, or whole bottom beak that was rip off? If it just the missing piece then not to bad and he sure able to eat and climb around fine. It could even grow back over somewhat in time, it could also be filled in. I seen a lot worst.
