Thank you guys so much for the encouraging remarks. I have had birds in my life, dogs, rescue cats and rescue horses that I have needed a lot of patience with in earning their trust. Charlie is not one I can take credit for. He is the most loving, trusting creature I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. His story is that he became a handful for his owner, too loud and busy and then ended up at the pet store where I found him, but what I know is this: at some time in his life he knew a great deal of love to be so trusting of his guardians. At his first vet visit, he literally lay on his back, feet in the air as if he was having a manicure-totally relaxed. Same when he had his injections. Then proceeded to cuddle the vet LOL. He is such a happy independant little boy and his body language leaves little to the imagination. If he feels over stimulated, he just says "nooooo", and fluffs his feathers a bit- we put him alone on his cage or playstand and an hour or two later he is ready to interact again. If you ignore the no, well, its at your own peril of course! LOL. Physically he was lacking, but there has been a huge improvement in his feathers and weight since his new diet. His beak is still dry and brittle though, not a shiny grey/black colour but rather chalky. Vet says it will continue to come right with diet and care, but any ideas? oils or lotions that anyone has used?
