NOT getting one of these magnificent birds, just saw both these names as AKAs for Major Mitchell’s cockatoos, which is too long for the room I have to write it out. So which one would people think works better? Desert Cockatoo or Pink Cockatoo?

For reference, these are 2.75” x 4.25” cards and I, putting the name in the top banner, so not a lot of room:

I hear about "desert cockatoo" name for the 1st time so I think the name "pink cockatoo" may be more popular but maybe I'm wrong

Good job btw

Dessert seems more exotic, but pink will fit better and match the card --what are you doing with the cards? If someone needs to remember it when you say, "do you have any pink cockatoos" then I would say that would be a better choice (for memory etc).

I have illustrated a series of 50 cards featuring various birds for an oracle deck (similar in concept to tarot cards). I’m currently doing the lettering for the names (top banner) and an affirmation on the bottom related to the element/chakra and bird represented. The affirmation for this one is “I am empowered to be successful in all of my ventures”.

Pink sounds more sassy and optimistic for some reason lol! I know that you have to be empowered to survive in the desert, but they don't actually live int the "desert" so I'd say pink.

As an Amazon Snob all the way... I have no clue as to which is more correct. Just as a passing two-cents. Desert would be a no-go as they are not 'desert' birds. So, if this a just voting, I'd be on the pink side.

Okay, so what are the 'affirmations' for the Amazons? A certain Amazon wants to know...

Beautiful Artwork as always.

Beautiful artwork, April! I'd go with "pink."

For a moment I thought your childhood with a Goffins inspired you to adopt a cockatoo! :D:D

That is gorgeous, April! Depending on your target audience for the cards, the non bird savy general public might be good with simply "cockatoo." Especially given the space available. Just a thought.

How about 'MM Cockatoo'?

AFAIK, no living person calls the bird either 'Pink' or 'Desert' Cockatoo. If you say 'Pink Cockatoo' in Australia, that means a Galah (but then, most people would say 'Galah' anyway).

They're beautiful birds, btw, and make superb companions. They will interbreed with Galahs and, occasionally, Corellas in captivity (which I always think is a shame - the original bird is simply gorgeous as it is).

While they are not all parrots, all the cards are birds. I would imagine most people interested in them would have at least some knowledge of birds.

You know the only one of 50 cards I’ve struggled with the name on was the only cockatoo in the bunch:whiteblue::white1::p

Yup: As she bravely looks over her shoulder to verify the location of a certain Amazon! :D:D:D

With the added choice, I kind of like the M.M. Cockatoo. Adds a tone of mystery!

I prefer the aesthetics of the word pink ....but I see Betrisher's point.I also liked SaxGuy's suggestion for "cockatoo"

Maybe just "Maj. Mitchell's", or "Mitchell's" for the limited space, and assume that people looking at the cards would understand it's a type of cockatoo?

I don't think people would think of that as a type of cockatoo-- people barely know cockatoos are parrots lol. They would probably think of Madge or Maggie if you put Mag on there, and then a man named Mitchell who owns a bird lol

Here's my thing, if I had a card with a black dog on it that happened to be a lab, I would be okay with "black dog"...that is descriptive of the theoretical image (like, black cat, black dog, brown rabbit, red apple, yellow bus).
