Hi all. It seems I started in this forum and then just disappeared (2 years ago). It's true; I did. The last two years have been really crazy. I had THREE surgeries, two on my right hip. The last one was emergency surgery due to a bacterial infection, followed by a 5-day stay in the hospital and dealing with a PICC line.

Meanwhile my hubby retired, and we started our move process. The decision was to move to NC in March to help out with my aging mother. We hit the year running with remodeling the house. The infection happened in February so that put off the move. Of course the pandemic hit as I was living with the PICC line, and Finally we were able to move in September/October. So just recently.

I kept saying that we would really make a more determined effort with our U2 Francie after we get to NC. Unfortunately, with everything that went on this year, he kind of got "less than desirable" amounts of attention. So we're facing some things that I'm going to be asking y'all about.

But just wanted to reintroduce myself.

I did a double-take when I saw the title of your post. My sister's name is Frances, but she's only ever been called 'Francie' by the family. She does horses, not parrots, so you'll understand my double-take! :D

I'm glad you made it back and especially glad you're feeling better. I hope we can all help you with Francie as well. :)

Welcome back! PICC lines are no joke! I had one for 6 months 20 yrs ago due to a bad staph infection in a broken leg (motorcycle accident). Not fun at all. Hope you like your new digs.

LOL - doubt if anyone remembers 2 yrs ago, in 2018, when I first joined. There is a lot of confusion in my "names". When I first joined I THOUGHT I had a 25-yr-old female named Fancy; hence the ID "FancysMom". A DNA test revealed that this little girl was actually a boy. I asked for input on name changes for him, and decided on Francis. The reason for that is because we could call him "Francie", which is close enough to Fancy that he would take to it more easily.

So now I'm stuck with the ID "FancysMom" but my bird's name is Francis, aka Francie. :p

YEP! Had the same thing in 2002. Staph infection, source unknown. Yours must've been worse than mine. I was only slated for the PICC line for 6 weeks. Side note: three wks into it developed a blood clot around the line and had to have the line removed. BUT I did BRAG (Bike Ride Across Georgia) 6 mos later, so I believe I recovered nicely.

This one was a strep infection. Not sure about the source. I'd had labrum surgery on that hip in Sept. 2019 but I also had a cavity filled in December, which would be about the time the infection started. Only had the PICC for 6 wks, but I couldn't walk well until the very end of it.

Meanwhile my husband is the main one handling Francie, which is WRONG, WRONG, WRONG!! Ugh, we have a lot of work ahead of us with this little guy.
