Hello,

We may be bringing in a new AG to our abode sometime within the next two to three weeks and I would like to learn as much as I can to make the adjustment as easy and comfortable as possible for our new featherbaby. So I have some quick questions!

Where, and on what, does your bird enjoy sleeping on most? A branch or something more cozy like a towel inside their cage? Does it like to have a covering over the cage at night? Any music on at night or windows open?

The bird will have her own room to herself, with a big cage in it and a playstand I will be constructing out of pvc here sometime this week--so she can eat meals with us at the table. Is there any larger toys that the room will need? A swing hanging from the ceiling is my next project. Also, I am a knitter, so is there any cuddle pouches I could make that an african grey would like?

Any other pointers would be great too!!

Congrats on your new bird, greys are beautiful. How old is your bird? A baby might need something to sleep on to keep him from falling thru the grates. My amazon sleeps on his perch. I have seen tents for sleeping. I cover his cage completely in the winter & leave a breezeway in the summer. They need 12+ hours sleep/night in a quiet location. Leave the window open if you are comfortable in the room, if its too chilly, close it.

Good luck, there are may parrot articles on the internet to help you learn about your new bird. Talking to your avian vet could really help too.

The little lady is older, a few years or so. And I'm usually always chilly if it's below 70 so I'll have to see what she likes:)

She is missing toes? Is she comfortable on a perch? She will forgive you if its not perfect at first, trial & error can work too. I would definitely take her for a well care visit @ the vet, he would probably have good recommendations relating directly to his opinion of your bird.

She's not missing all of her toes, just the tips of some. Been that way since birth. Apparently it doesn't effect her at all! But I'll put a cozy alternative in there just in case.

My Timneh grey loves to sleep on a platform. I think that is good for their feet to have them flat for a good while instead of curled around a perch. You will love you grey.

I am very excited! We just have to get the details worked out, but it should be happening here within the next two weeks.
