Hurrah!

I got the meet the wonderful breeder who raised my Merlin today! My local breeder took me and andy on a car ride to meet the woman who handles the greys/macaws/sennies and Andy put his deposit on a grey (which should be ready in about 5 weeks time, but we get to go and get picked by one in about 3 weeks :))

She actually agreed, as she knows my experience with Fred's birds, that once the parrot is on enough solids that she's happy with, she'll consider letting him come home with me and me finishing up the formula feeding. A lot of people might frown about this, but whilst I was there she took a call and made it clear the babies would not be ready until way after the date she spoke to me about (same clutch) as she would not let them go to someone she doesn't trust etc, without being 100% weaned.

So I got to meet her and thank her for my wonderful Merlin and she was pleased to hear her splay legged baby had gone to me and I let her know how he was doing, haha. Then after we got to play with some baby greys which were 14/15 week old (which by the way, Andy was completely bowled over by them and fell in love and there is no way on earth we wouldn't be getting one now ;)).

After the grey cuddling and financial stuff was dealt with, my normal breeder then took me to his big farm where he keeps all his breeding birds. I got to visit the MASSIVE aviaries that he has - and oh my word, he has some magnificent amazons there. He took me around and I was greeted by lots of 'hello darling!' and 'ringringring.... hello Hamer Pets?'. I felt honored that he'd let me visit them there and the way he just beamed about them, such a massive amount of pride! (Andy was tempted by these, but hey... we wanted a grey more ;)) He even offered to lend us a cage for either Merlin/Grey until we get settled and back on our feet properly as he knows we're moving homes and stuff.

Had such a fantastic day and I'm looking forward to coming back in a few weeks time to meet our baby to be.

Does any other woman on here feel 'pregnant' when they're expecting a new bird but haven't had the chance to meet it yet? I feel like I'm in the later stages of pregnancy and just full of anxiety and excitement to meet the guy!

I'm looking forward to Merlin having a baby 'big' brother/sister too. As much as he's my cuddlebug, I'm sure he'd actually appreciate the company when me and Andy have to be out. :)

Just do it again, it's what I do. We talk about the type of bird and when I've got a "in X years time" from Andy, I go and get one and then 'tadaaaaaa! cant take him back now can we? :54:'

It's what I did with my rescue, with Merlin... and my budgie's. &I pretty much just threw a tantrum about getting the grey.
"BUT BUT, MERLIN LOVED THE GREYS, HE GREW UP WITH THEM, YOU WANT ONE AND WE'VE SAID WELL GET ONE WHY DO WE HAVE TO WAIT FOREVER WHEN WE KNOW THE BREEDER HAS SOME BABIES :('

(Disclaimer: Getting a pet is a family decision and should not be done without full consent from each family member...)

Andy falls in love with each and every one of the birds I get/choose. As long as /I/ can financially provide for them and there's enough room, Andy just sighs and then that's the end of the story. :D

Was so lovely to be able to see them all, you could tell the Amazons were busy breeding because of the cocks aggressive 'showing'. Was hilarious as they were aggressive towards me and andy but as soon as they saw Fred "hello darling!" Both breeders... it was just... indescribable, they obviously love all their birds. I don't think I could be a breeder, having to give away my babies all the time!

There were three greys that were soon ready to be leaving the woman, and the youngest was just a sweetheart, reminded me of Merlin the way he was a little cry baby ;).

Congratulation! African Grays are amazing birds. I have mine right next to me while typing. He will be shy at the beginning but once he trusts you, he will be your best pal.

I've spent a lot of time around Greys and amazons, they are just so fantastic and full of character. Really am looking forward to meeting ours!
