I'm going to be adopting the CAG from the couple in Connecticut who need new homes for their birds. I need to find her a cage, and haven't done any cage shopping in some time now. I plan to begin looking online in a few minutes. But, if anyone has recently bought a cage that they like, I would be appreciative of a link. I wish I could remember what brand of cage my amazon is in, but I just don't! I love that cage though and bought it more than a decade ago at a bird fair.

Ugh, the link won't work for me. I did see some nice cages on amazon today though. I bought a cage that was on there, but also on ebay for a better price. It was the one the current owners liked the most. I involved them in my search as they know the bird. When they said they liked that one best, I said ok.

I'm not going to lie, I end up buying all of my cages off of craigslist. I was just looking at one at a store that was nice and a great price, but then I ended up finding a better one on craigslist fro over a hundred bucks cheaper, and it led to us finding the zon's so I can't complain :) I'm not sure how close you are to here, but I just found this one on the toledo craigslist, looks like it could use a good scrubbing, but other than that, it's a steal. Bird Cage

All of mine have required a good bit of elbow grease and some scalding hot water, but if the cage itself is in good condition(no rust, good powder coating) even the dirtiest of cages will look like new again.

Just found this one too.

Sorry bout that. I have it saved in my cart but maybe it won't work cause its sold out for the moment. I'd attach just a pic but our internet has been down for close to a week now so I only have access via my phone for now.... I wrote the dimensions down somewhere but can't find it so ill guesstimate - 40 x 30 x 67 with a playtop, stainless steal bowls, and a seed skirt for $159 and $50 shipping! I'm grabbing one as soon as its available again. Keep it til I find the perfect amazon for it : )

What cage did you end up getting? I'd like to see.

From little to big - currently 6 Linnies; 2 Budgies; 1 BHP; 2 CAGs; 2 Zons; 1 GWM. Formerly in the flock: 1 LSC2 [fostered/rehomed] RIP: 1 budgie 1 WCP & 1 sweet Pan Am
Every bird we've gotten has come with its own cage, although we replaced the 'zon's cage immediately because it was too small, too thin-barred . . . just not up to housing a 'zon.

And like IcyWolf, we shop craigslist for used cages.

My favorite is a vintage brass cage (which we obviously had to powder-coat due to the zinc). We got the cage for $75 & a deal on powdercoating at $100 (full price on powdercoating was $250). I've seen several of the same style on craigslist from $100 to $150. We got another cage (not brass) which was 36 x 24 x 48 for $50. This one just needed to be repainted (we weren't going the powdercoat route on this one).

Anyhow, if you decide to go the used cage route, you almost always need to ask the seller for the size of the part that houses the bird, the spacing between the bars & the bars' thickness. And they will almost always be dirty & possibly need refinishing.

Below is a link to a good article on repainting bird cages:

All the best to you for getting this CAG. Are you shipping? I know these people seemd very concerned about their birds which is a good thing. Greys are super fantastic birds. Rosie has an Avian Adventure cage and it has held up very well. It was easy to get together and high quality. Of course the prices have increased since we bought one. Here is the best price I could find:

parrot cage (PRICE REDUCED)

Ugh, somehow I missed those and I did check CL first! Both of those areas actually!

She can't come with her current cage because it's one of those double decker ones and their amazon lives in one half.

We will be meeting in Pennsylvania rather than shipping. This weekend would be good for both of us to travel weather wise provided the new cage gets here in time. It might, it might not. I did win the ebay bid, and got the cage for only $190 shipped. I hope it's decent quality. It looks like it comes with one natural wood perch, but I will need to find more. Perhaps they can bring her toys with her though, and some of their perches. That way she would also have things she is used to.

Oh, I think I might have seen the Toledo CL cage, but it was black. Her owners felt she preferred a lighter colored cage. I think I considered it thinking hmm, maybe the zon would be willing to take that one and she could take his, but he may not want to give his cage up now. The cage he came in was pitifully small for an amazon. The first thing he did when I got here was climb all over it and begin going upside down across the top of it, which he does several times a day. He seem thrilled that he can move around. He definitely spent too much time being sedentary. He wants to be an acrobatic amazon and scares himself all the time. He will get on a toy and start swinging around and then becomes frightened and has some trouble figuring out how to get off of it. He will swing himself over to a perch and then end up laying on his back on the perch, holding onto the toy and trying to figure out how to save himself, lol! I keep resisting the urge to rescue him though as he needs to develop his muscles. He hasn't fallen, thankfully, but he almost did last night.

However, I admit, that seems a good deal for that cage on CL. If there is anyone here in northern Ohio or Eastern PA that wants it, I could buy it for you and deliver it the day I pick up the CAG if you are on my way, or can meet me.

This is the cage I have for my African Grey.

Petco Designer Mink Brown Standing Parrot Cage - Parrot Bird Cage and Playtop Bird Cage from Petco.com

It's nice but the only disadvantage is that you can't hang toys from the top the way you usually would. What I ended up doing was taking on of the dowels it came with putting it at the top of the cage, and hanging the toys from the perch. It works and the dowels are too smooth so I replaced them with pedi perches throughout the cage.

That is a nice, large cage for the price. Is it because of the playtop that you can't hang toys from the top? How is the half inch bar spacing for the Grey? The one I bought has 3/4" if I remember correctly. One of the cages I liked only had 1/2" and I wasn't sure if that was too small for her feet. My zon's cage only has 5/8" as I first bought it for a conure, but despite his huge feet he scoots right along.

I did see one huge cage on CL that was the brass bars, but I dismissed it right off thinking of the zinc. Interesting to know painting a cage isn't that hard.

I do much prefer the powder coated cage I have to the one my Nanday is in that seems to have some type of paint on it. None of it has ever come off, thankfully, but the powder coated one does seem to clean up easier. I actually hate my Nanday's cage but she is extremely territorial about it and she loves it.

The cage I bought does have a playtop but it comes off. It has it's own tray so I may find it's hard to hang toys from as well. If that is the case, I'll just keep the tray out.

You could do this one in black
[ame="http://www.amazon.com/Prevue-Products-Wrought-3154BLK-Hammertone/dp/B000OP9M5U/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1325528231&sr=8-2"]Amazon.com: Prevue Pet Products Wrought Iron Select Bird Cage 3154BLK, Black Hammertone, 36-Inch by 24-Inch by 66-Inch: Pet Supplies[/ame]

or in Pewter for a bit more:
[ame="http://www.amazon.com/Prevue-Products-Wrought-Select-3154W/dp/B000OPBGSG/ref=sr_1_1?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1325528574&sr=1-1"]Amazon.com: Prevue Pet Products Wrought Iron Select Bird Cage Pewter 3154W: Pet Supplies[/ame]

I have the Pewter one for my CAG Niles, and its pretty big. It also doesn't look bad next to my conures white cage. They almost match. It's a very light grey and almost Pearly in appearance with flecks of shinier silver throughout. haha hard to explain. It also has a nice play top on top of the cage. The drawer is removable on the top so you can remove it, hang toys from the top and put the drawer back.

I saw you mentioned expedited shipping being a plus. When I got my cage, there was an offer for a free one month trial of Amazon Prime. Which basically gives you free 2 day shipping, or you can upgrade to next day for 3.99 per item. So I got my cage the very next day and I only paid 3.99 for shipping. Even if there isn't the free trial of prime, Amazon prime is only 79 per year and you would be able to do the next day shipping at 3.99. Plus any future amazon purchase this year would have 2 day free shipping and next day 3.99. You also get access to the kindle lending library, which lets your borrow books on your kindle and access to streaming movies. It's a pretty good deal.

If you decide to go with Amazon, just make sure when you make the purchase that the item is eligible for Amazon Prime, its basically anything sold by Amazon or fulfilled by Amazon and not an independent seller through Amazon.

Also, if you go with the free trial of prime, make sure you cancel it before the month is up, or they charge you. I got charged for it because I forgot, but I've already used the next day shipping a bunch and borrowed a book on my kindle so I'm not mad about it :)

No, actually they did not want a black cage, but rather a lighter color. The one I bought was called "silver vein" and is a lighter gray. I'll have to get a link up here. It's not the biggest cage in the world, but they felt she would really like it and said she isn't athletic and coordinated like the South American species. I guess she isn't the sort that likes to swing from her toys or hang upside down. When out of her cage she wants to be with her human, and help in the kitchen with food prep. They said she may not actually care much for the playtop. I said I can always keep it off and put it on the coffee table as well for the birds. I have a table top one I made for my conure, and also a Parrot Tower. I'm also working on a smallish Mulberry tree that died this year, trying to make them an actual real tree play stand. I don't put any pesticides on my fruit trees so it should make a safe, and interesting thing for them. I bet the cat climbs up it, too, though!

Here is a link to the one I bought. They thought the shape and size and color would be most comforting to her:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/150723371162?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
Luckily the auction ended last night so I just have to wait for it to be shipped and arrive here. There were actually a few nice cages on ebay for the price and all of them were on the amazon site as well so I was able to read a few reviews. This is my first time buying a cage online and not seeing it in person first. Hopefully the bird and I will both be pleased with it.

I did actually find one that was just like my zon's cage that I bought at the bird fair over a decade ago, but they didn't like the stand feeling it might topple over. Mine never has, thankfully although I once almost dropped it off the porch while I was cleaning it, lol! But that's what happens when you roll one of the wheels off the edge! It's always been a good, sturdy cage for me, but since they preferred the ebay cage, I was good with it.

Ugh, I don't know why the link isn't working! When I clicked on it, it took me to some weird page about John Belushi! I will try again here.
