Recently Pearl has been coming up with all kinds of noises and I don't know where they come from lol.One is a water noise and the one that she really loves to do now is like a cat hissing!I have no idea where she gets it because we only have a dog.Now when we try to talk to each other through different parts of the house when we're busy she screams at us and makes a chuckling noise. No words yet but these sounds are making me laugh. What are some random noises your birds do?

Merlin has a whole bunch of interesting ones, including some that I can't identify. She clucks as a greeting and makes a big kiss as a thank you. She has all kinds of whistles including some pretty long songs and wild bird calls. She also does an ambulance, a microwave beep, the fire alarm beep, squeaky car brakes, a lot of video game sounds and seems to really enjoy making scary, monster sounds of some kind. She has started laughing in my laugh and did it a lot this morning.

Maybe the hiss is a natural Grey sound. My amazon was both hissing and growling at me the first 2 days he was here.

Oh, and Merlin barks now like a dog because Pete does it. Her previous owners told me she didn't bark when I told them about Pete barking. Well, she barks now.

Wow your birds have quite a wide range! This isn't the angry hiss I don't think.she just started it the day before yesterday. She runs around and does it and then chirps and climbs on my hand lol.I would love for her to make video game noises because im a nerd that would be awesome.

I don't play video games so at first my other birds were like "what the heck is she doing??" But, my conure really likes those sounds and chirps along with her. She likes the squeaky car brake sound, too.

Merlin's previous owners were in a rural area, too, I think so she may have gotten the ambulance from TV. I think that's where she got the "Oww!" she's been doing all morning as well, because I'm positive I didn't say it. I haven't hurt myself or anything lately.

Maybe your bird heard a cat on TV hiss and she liked it.

That's cool! And possibly I've had animal planet on lately when she's out but the only time I heard a cat hiss is in cats 101 but maybe a commercial.I usually leave her in there.I need to make a cd of video game noises and leave it on all day haha.

But I think it's just amazing how they pick up noises from everything!

This is my first Grey so I'm quite amused myself over her sounds. Other than talking or conure sounds, the only sound Rowdy has picked up is kissing noises. Pete barks and meows and is now doing Merlin's cluck, but he doesn't have any other sounds from the environment either.

I could have done without the fire alarm one, but oh well:) She was here about 10 minutes before she had me running all over the house looking for the fire, lol! But, when she keeps doing it over and over if I say, "Ok, honey, very loud and piercing" she will stop like she understands.

I've only had mine for a day, but I know Gracie knows several whistles, and the sound of a police siren. She also makes this sound that probably came from a video game, like light sabers going off or something.

*edit*
Lucy's saying 'good girl' in a man's voice and making some kinda strange noise I'm not sure what it is yet.,.. little dogs barking maybe.

I just love all the different sounds and whistles Pepper is making! I was on the phone with my sister yesterday, and she could hear Pepper in the background. She asked, "does she watch a lot of looney toons?" LOL. She hasn't yet here, but it sure sounds like it! The other day she was making "fart" noises, then said "I heard that!" Such a funny girl!

Yes, I think every single time I've told Merlin something was pretty or nice, she has farted back:p And then I'm always like, well, so much for pretty!

Grey's only need to hear a sound once to start to mimic it. It could have come from the tv, radio, internet, or kitchen sink. They have exceptional hearing so the water dripping sound they could have picked up on even though you never noticed it. My grey Gabe makes the same dripping sound.. he picked it up from the bathroom sink which is 3 rooms away from where he's at. He also whistles the adam's family theme song even though he only ever heard it once, mimics the beeping of the microwave when it's done to signal that he's hungry (he knows that microwave = food).
