My CAG started a molt about a month ago and she was born in april of last year so in my case around 9 months.I think it's almost over now because her feathers have more color to them and the new read tail feathers are getting longer.

Do they molt at a certain age or a certain time of the year? I'm not sure. Mine is molting right now.

I've been reading in that lately and what I found was that it all depends on the bird sometimes and it's usually some big molts each year and a series of mini molts.I don't know for sure:/

Mine is going through what appears to be his first molt now, and he's about to turn a year old in just a few days.

[FONT=&quot]Most birds begin their first molting around a year old, some may vary.
Most birds moult by replacing a few feathers at a time. Moulting is normally symmetrical. Thus a bird may lose primaries and one or two separate secondaries on each wing - when these are replaced they will lose the next ones along. This way a bird can still function. The feathers grow quickly and it requires a lot of energy to build them, even so moulting can take a long time and some parrots take up to 9 months to complete a moult.
Mishka is molting at the moment OMG............ this has been going for about 4 weeks already....
Below are the feathers I have collect over the past few weeks...
