Home Depot sells fencing material, not sure if it would be bird safe though.

I think it would be easier to 'fence' in the dog...

American Bulldog Mix,
Home depot and loses has it all. I believe loses is cheaper for most materials. I had my huge pit and my small bulldog mix with a blue and good macaw and coffin cockatoo in a studio apt. With my hubby. It all depends on how you make your lay out look. We organized t probably 6 times before we found away for it to look nice and have space for the dogs to play. We had just two problems. The macaws cage was hugs and low so both dogs would climb inside it while open to eat her food and my goffin cockatoo would reach her foot through the door and reach for the dogs tails if they were sitting near by which
Was not a pretty sight once she hit them...

I thinks something like this is what you're thinking of: [ame=http://www.amazon.com/North-States-Superyard-Play-Classic/dp/B00020L78M]Amazon.com: North States Superyard Play Yard, Classic XT: Baby[/ame] The answer would be Amazon, or look for a local babies/toysRus for one.

That said, do you have a Studio apartment, or is there a bedroom you could have your one-on-one time with your bird or leave the cat in while the bird is out? Personally, I've tried cats and birds, and it didn't work except for one kitty, and she had special needs (Cerebellar Hypoplasia) and couldn't climb on to anything at all, even the couch, so the birds were never in danger. I have a small dog and she does get curious and will try to sniff Loki on occasion, but Loki usually gives her "what for" and Onyx leaves him alone.

We got one of those a few months back, walmart sells em online for 50$. Much cheaper than anywhere else. :)

Your kidding right??? Small dog and a cat? I know that every cat I have ever been around is laid back until something catches their eye. Cats and birds usually don't mix and neither do small dogs and birds. It's like the dog has to try and show the bird whose boss.

Some how I don't see this being a good idea and especially in a apartment. Hopefully your apartment has a seperate room for either the bird or the dog and cat. The person that I got my Senegal from also went out a bought a Brown Labrador puppy. Can you guess what happened?

The Labrador a bird dog duuuuuuuh wanted to chase the bird and tried to eat her. So guess which one got the boot, not the dog, but the bird. Their loss my gain. I look back at that situation and ask myself all the time, where was these people's common sense.

I've never had issues with dogs or cats and Amigo. The animals all give Amigo a wide berth, (even the coyotes!). I realize he is a large parrot but don't smaller parrots also try and intimidate a threatening foe?

I've got one that's close to 7 years old (not exact same model, different color) that's been sitting in my basement for at least 3 years. Only reason I haven't found it a new home is because I know that I'll need it in the future to keep tiny little hands away from beaks ;)

My shiba inu is small and she gets along with both my birds. I have a pineapple green cheek conure and a white dove. My conure lets my dog know if she gets too close or pushy, she'll get her nose bit. The gcc throws food out of the cage for my dog to eat so they have sort of a game together. My dog lets my birds run around without being chased or harmed. All the pets can be on the couch together without any squabbles. I think it depends on the individual pet.

My personal opinion? No cats. Dogs, all depends on the breed and personality of the dog. I have a small Boston Terrier, but she's already 6 and I had her around birds as a puppy. Loki is much smaller than the birds she was around, but he's bitten her once without her instigating and so she doesn't go near him except to hunt for discarded crumbs around the bottom of his cage. BT's also aren't bird dogs (like Labs). If I already had a bird, I wouldn't get a puppy (or even adopt an older dog) unless I knew for certain that it wasn't going to be an issue, but I'd also never ever leave them unsupervised together. And I would certainly never have a cat. Cat scratches can be lethal to a bird and a cat can get to a bird even through cage bars.

Kawie, 16 year old Congo African Grey
I have 2 dogs and 2 cats with Kawie (adopted 2 1/2 weeks ago). Granted one of my cats is 18 years old and NOTHING catches his eye anymore. But both of my cats are declawed and dont even seem to notice the bird. As far as the dogs go, I have a 80 lb Malamute who loves Kawie's scraps he throws down and I have a 6 lb shih tzu who pretty much ignores Kawie other than when he whistles at them, she perks her ears up but thats about it. So in my humble opinion it can be done. We were very careful and watched the interaction for about the first week or so but other than the normal.... "oh something new is here" it was minimal and faded.

Only thing I could think of that would contain you & your bird away from the dog & cat would be an indoor walk in aviary.. which is probably crazy expensive OR you could build yourself with supplies from homedepot etc.

But i don't think all that is necessary.
It all depends on your dog though. I have a small dog (chihuahua 8lbs) and a large cat (13lbs). The dog actually doesn't mind the birds at all but he doesn't like them close to him as he usually gets his ears chewed on lol. Sometimes if he's excited & they're flying around he'll run after them but I know he'd never hurt them. He grew up with all kinds of animals- parakeets, cats, hamsters, ferrets. I can trust him.

If he's a hyper, jumpy dog I think it would be easier, as someone said before to contain the dog rather than the bird when you let him out of the cage. Although I really don't think it's a big deal having them in the same area if you're there to supervise I understand some small dogs like Jack Russels have that hunting instinct & others with very high energy just don't know how to act lol. If you're at all concerned you should put the dog in a crate or in another room or leashed up to something while the bird is out of cage.

When you first get the bird give him however much time he needs to feel comfortable & after he's used to everything I suggest working on getting the dog used to the bird. Always make sure his energy is toned down if he's high energy. Chances are your bird will have more of an attitude towards the dog than vise versa. But I could be wrong.

I also don't see a problem with having cats and birds AS LONG AS YOU ARE ALWAYS THERE TO SUPERVISE OUT OF CAGE TIME. My cat is indoor/outdoor. This helps because many times with nice weather if he's outside I don't even have to worry about letting the birds out of their cage. BUT being outdoor/indoor he HAS brought home birds before (he never manages to kill them -___________- just catches them & brings them home for me to chase around and let outside again then clean up feathers after) but I know he knows not to mess with house birds.

The first few weeks with the bird whenever the cat would stalk the bird cage - & I mean like even one remotely predator-ish look from the cat to the bird- the cat got a jet of water to the face from my squirt bottle that would send him running out of the room.
Now I can trust him & the birds in the same room as long as I'm there. Any funny business & a stern verbal correction will usually set him straight. Many times without me even doing ANYTHING if a bird flies by he will just leave the room. It probably wasn't the nicest way to condition him but it was for the safety of the birds & it wasn't painful for him, just unpleasant to learn that way. I honestly don't THINK he would intentionally hurt my birds because my cat is more playful & curious than anything but it's still better to be on the safe side coz he is afterall, a cat- & a cat capable of catching flighted birds.

Also it's best (I think) not to clip your birds wings if you plan having cats & dogs in the same house with them so if anything were to ever go wrong your bird would still have a fair chance at getting away from danger. I had both my birds clipped when I first got them in order to bond & train them but they're both growing the feathers back out now & getting to be really good at flying.

Anyway that was long. I wish you luck. Just know it can be done but you have to be diligent & just use common sense mostly. I think you'll be fine :)
