I recently moved into a new apartment in the heart of nature. It's is beautiful here.

Rosie spent several hours in her traveling cage on moving day. She has always loved her main cage and what is inside. My problem is since the move she no longer likes being in her house. She has destroyed things in temper it seems and drags her foot on surfaces in the cage like a horse in the dirt because she wants out all the time. She is not eating or drinking the pellets or water inside the cage. I have put the pellets on top and she nibbles at them. The only time she settles down is at bedtime when I partially cover the cage. I am hoping when I get back to work on Monday she will settle down into what was our normal pattern of being in the cage for 5 hours 4 days a week. Any ideas how I can get her to like being in cage again?

I am just guessing at this but the surroundings around her cage may be bothering her if the location is different than what she is used to.
When I got Forrest's huge cage he seemed a little lost with all the room. He actually didn't need a bigger cage really. Anyway I put his cover on the back side of the cage ( I made it in such a way that I can roll the top and sides back over the cage. So the back and half the top is covered and half of the sides even during the day. He always goes to the back when he has to go inside the cage. I think it makes him feel more secure.
I have read that their cage needs to be against a wall so their natural instinct won't constantly be watching for predators. His is in a corner so there is open space behind. Don't know if that is the problem but you might give it a try at least on the back side. It really makes it easy for the morning wakeup and not have to find a place to put the cover.

If you changed the furnishings around her cage then I would guess that's the problem. If at all possible I would suggest that you arrange the room to be as close as possible to what it was like before. Of course you guys know more than me so I don't know if I'm giving you advice that you have tried yet or not, but if you haven't I would say to start with the way the room is arranged.

I'm sure Rosie will come around soon.

Her cage is against the wall but the furniture cannot be arranged the way it was before due to space. This move has really stressed her out. In this case I hope it is time heals all wounds. Thanks for your ideas.

Try covering the back and half the sides with a cover you may be amazed at how much more comfortable she is.

Congrats? on your move and..poor Rosie :( I hope she manages to settle in sometime soon. It's looking more and more like I'm going to be moving to Va at the end of next month and I'm worried about how the critters are going to manage.

Keeping you both in my thoughts and hope she gets used to her new surroundings soon.

Thanks Wulf. We are almost neighbors - Md. and VA. I must say Rosie is slightly better today. She actually went in her cage by herself and ate pellets/water. Yesterday and today was the first day we had no visitors or handyman or deliveries. Anyone moving I suggest you board out the bird or birds with a friend who is willing.
