Flight and poop question!

We have had our new CAG for just under a week. When he is out of his cage he poops A LOT. I mean every 2 minutes or so (not exaggerating). These poops also seem to be a little watery. We don't notice hi. Pooping this much when he is in his cage or on it. He is not used to being out of his cage everyday could the increase in exercise have anything to do with it? Should we be worried?

Second question, when he flies he does not land gracefully. He either clips his wing on the wall or all out hits it. His flight feathers are just starting to grow back in. So again could the fact that he didn't come out a lot cause him to have a lack of control? Or is it just because his feathers are still growing out?

how old is your grey? are you feeding a lot of fruit? that could be the cause of the watery poop~ also if his flight feathers are not in and he hasn't flown much, he doesn't have the muscle development needed or the feathers~

The previous owner said he is 3. He was on an all pellet diet, we have started to add fresh food to his diet. She also gave him cheeze it's to bribe him in and out of the cage.

Their navigation skills need to be completely reset, when their feathers are clipped...

he needs more practice on the flying lol, bit like me and my recently acquired hips! i keep scuffing them when cornering! so i need to reset my dimentions in my head

nut gets watery poops when she's had a sudden intake of fresh, but not that often, but she likes to drop a one off splatt!! always before take off

you can always see if the vets will test a sample?? but i think its change in diet, so when his body gets use to the new diet, it'll regulate itself better

I agree, if he has always had his wings clipped he does not know how to fly. If you let them grow out the more he tries the better he will be, just like taking the training wheels of a child's bicycle.
I would not give him too much cheese, there stomach can not process dairy products.
I would by some Birdie treats and use them.

As far as the watery poop, that is due to the fruits, especially if you are giving him oranges and grapes, but all fruit has a lot of water in them.
As long as it is still greenish and there are bits of solids there he should be ok.
If you have not taken him to an avian vet since you acquired him I would take him, just get a good check up and to make sure nothing is wrong..

My guess on the frequent pooping is nerves too. Jasper is a little poop machine when I take him to a room he's not been in much or in a bit of a strange situation.

African grays will avoid pooping in their cage at all cost unless they are forced to stay in it for long periods of time. In the wild they don't poo in their roosting tree(cage is their tree).

Thank you that's great to know! When we got him he had not been out of his cage for months, so he improbably loving that he can poop somewhere else now!

Well would someone please call my bird and tell him that!! Jeeeeeesh, I swear he flies down and poops just to make me get up and clean it up, then he laughs. I now own stock in several paper towel manufacturing plants.

I think a lot of it was nerves. Now that he is getting used to us it seems the pooping is decreasing.

His flight seems to be getting better also. He will flight from that play stand to the couch to sit with us, and then back to his cage when he is ready for bed.

Good deal! My green cheek is going through a molt right now so he'll be flying again soon. I had him clipped earlier this year to help deal with his snottiness. He's gotten so much better I'm going to leave him unclipped again I think.
