I got her out myself today!

I got pooped on (thankfully in my ugly bird shirt which is why it was on!) , and she ripped out one of my earrings....but I stuck my arm to her and she stepped up!

Not the best photo, plus it's like 90 here and I was nervous as heck.....probably not the only person who sweat the first time holding their bird alone that they didn't know too well

Woo, progress. Congratulations. Things will get easier with time. The earring ripping out isn't fun... Merlin pulled all 6 of mine out one time. Just sat there crying whilst he pulled one after the other out. Heh

The absolute best thing to do when your bird is on you is to not benervous, birds can sense that and it makes them nervous. Just try to enjoy your time together. When I put my Greenwing Macaw on people at he beach the 1st thing I tell them is don't be nervous. Good luck and be cool.

yep always remove the jewelry you don't want removed by your bird who may have a light touch when peeling grapes but not when removing jewelry.
unless you wear large hoop earings and have lovebirds or parrolets who seem to think your wearing perches just for them.

Congrats on your progress. But I would like to point out that you should NEVER let a bird on your shoulder unless you really trust them and know them quite well. Fortunately it was only an earring it could have just as easily been your ear.

What's the best way to prevent them from going up your arm without getting bit? I would have loved for her to just stay on my arm, that's what my amazon does, but my conure and cag go for the shoulder.

Conures are snugglers so that makes sense. And they usually cant really bite hard enough to cause any major damage but can remove jewelry rather well as my wife has learned. But I agree that a CAG prob shouldnt be on your shoulder as even they can be having a moody bad day and take it out on your ear / cheek. A trick that I was shown is when they step up onto your hand just gently put your thumb over the top of their foot. It doesn't have to be firm pressure but enough that they dont try to walk up your arm.
