Okay, so I've had my greys for a month now and things are going pretty good. I began target training them several weeks ago and Tally all but attacks the stick and Teo complies when interested.

They've been moved from a Kaytee Gourmet mix to Zoopreem pellets with fresh veggies twice daily, and in the evening are given Harison's Recovery formula, since Teo's feathers are so shabby.

They have moved upstairs and this has done wonders for their talking. Between the two of them they know about a hundred words, phrases, whistles, and meows (the cat is so confused!).

Today was the first day I took them individually for training by toweling one and putting it on a portable perch (they were not thrilled) where we worked on target, kiss, and the beginnings of step up. Neither will accept a hand, but Tally will work with a toweled hand, and Teo is working with a thin stick that doesn't scare him, and hopefully I can move to a perch that will hold him. So far with step up training Tally will touch the towel with one foot and Teo is still figuring out not to target the stick with his mouth, though is starting to comprehend the use of his foot.

It is much easier on a perch than trying to chase them on top of their cage.

Unlike his sister, Teo wants to be scritched (finally!) and seems much more comfortable on the perch.

Question:
Am I doing okay with them? I've never had to train birds that were this removed from humans before, Kito was much more used to people.

Another thing I need to know is what it means when birds reach for each others beaks. I'm beginning to introduce the greys to my sennie slowly, and while Tally wants nothing to do with her, Teo is interested. Both pin slightly and **** their heads, then reach forward to grasp the others beak.

Question:
Is this friendly or a test? Their beak is stronger than Kito's and I don't want her to get hurt.

Thanks all in advance. If you have any suggestions or encouragement I'd love to hear from you!

Karigan,

thank you for your updates. Always nice to hear the progress everyone is making. Patience is the key and Teo letting you scritch him is huge. I am sure Tally will follow once she watches Teo getting physical attention.
Keep up the good work!
